Abstract

An ironing press (1) has a pressure plate (12) and a heatable counterplate (11), between which an article of clothing, such as a pair of trousers or parts thereof, can be pressed. The ironing press is designed as a portable manual device with a carrying handle (15) in the manner of an unfoldable attache case, with two box-shaped parts (11, 12) linked to each other in an unfoldable manner by hinges (22, 23) or another linking element arranged along one of their sides. One part of the press is equipped with a heating plate (10) regulated by a thermostat and the other is equipped with a compressible elastic cover, and acts as a pressure plate (12). The invention relates to an ironing press with a press plate and a heatable counter plate, between which a piece of clothing, such as trousers or parts thereof, can be pressed.

Ironing presses and trouser presses are known in particular in the commercial sector, as described for example in DE-PS 37 31 121. Usually, trouser presses and ironing devices are fixed in place and are designed in the size of the heating and pressing plates, which allow one pair of trousers to be treated simultaneously over their entire length.

The invention has for its object to provide a device for ironing in particular pants and other clothing in a handy and portable size that can be taken especially when traveling and for example to give business people the opportunity to wear a pair of pants or another piece of clothing iron on. There are also known fixed presses attached to walls, for example of hotel rooms, but they are not present in every hotel room, such as a television.

The invention solves this problem by designing an ironing press as a portable foldable case device. According to the invention, an ironing press device with a handle and a size is designed in the manner of an open briefcase. The inventive ironing press device, which can be handled and opened like a briefcase, has a handy size and can be carried anywhere. In order to generate a pressing pressure for ironing a piece of clothing or closing the two body parts to form a portable device, it is proposed to mount continuously adjustable closure means on the side opposite the connecting side of the body parts. Preferred fasteners are designed as a Velcro fastener with a tab fastened to one body part with Velcro material and adhesive material applied to the other body part, so that the tabs are infinitely adjustable and a desired contact pressure can accordingly be achieved in the folded state of the body parts.

The carrying handle for the ironing press device can be attached to the side of a body part that has the closure means or else on the connection side of the body parts opposite the closure means. It is also possible to attach the handle to a side of the device which runs transversely to the connecting side of the body parts.

The infinitely variable adjustability of the closure means, for example the tabs equipped with a Velcro fastener, has the advantage of being adapted to different thicknesses of the items of clothing placed in the device for ironing. According to the invention, both the body plate comprising the press plate and the heating plate, for example in the form of a heating foil, are preferably covered by means of a foam film.

In a further embodiment of the invention, the device is equipped on the outside with one or two flat chambers in which the thermostat for regulating the heating power and one Connection cables can be accommodated.

The portable ironing press device according to the invention obtains a sufficiently stable construction, for example, by designing the body parts with a stiffening frame, for example made of wood with base plates, the body parts being covered on the outside with an outer cover made of leather, synthetic leather or textile fabric. In addition, reinforcement corners made of metal or plastic in the manner of fittings can also be provided at the corners. The dimensions of an ironing press according to the invention in the form of a suitcase device in a small suitcase size are chosen so that an ironing surface is provided which is available for ironing 1/3 to 1/2 a length of men's trousers with a medium leg width.

The portable ironing press device according to the invention allows in several successive steps if it is necessary to iron all of a pair of pants. The corresponding trousers parts are then successively inserted between the heating plate and the pressing plate of the device, in order to be smoothed by pressing the heating plate and the pressing plate together after the power has been switched on and the heating plate has been heated.

In order to additionally fix items of clothing inserted into the ironing press, it is proposed to equip a body part with movable holders. For example, one or two elastic bands, which are stretched across the heating plate and under which the item of clothing is pushed.

Instead of closure means for the body parts on the basis of continuously adjustable Velcro closures, it is also possible to provide resilient closure means, for example in the form of a closure clip or snap closures, on a body part, which then snap into place on the second body part.

The ironing press device 1 according to FIG. 1 is designed in a compact, portable form as a case device or as a briefcase. It has the heating plate 10 accommodated in the carcass part 11 designed as a box. Connection cable 14 and temperature controller with timer for the heating plate are located on the back of the box 11. The heating plate 10 and thus the surrounding box 11 have such dimensions that they allow a portable size of the ironing press 1, so that this in the manner of a case or a briefcase is to be carried and can therefore be taken as luggage, especially in the car or on the train.

The ironing press device does not have a frame on which it stands or lies, but rather it is equipped with a handle 15 along one side of a body part, preferably the body part 11 receiving the heating plate 10, which can also be used as a hanging device. The carrying handle 15 can additionally have a hanging hook 15a. With the help of the handle 15, the ironing press 1 can be touched and carried and hung at any location on a corresponding hook or the like or on a cabinet edge, so that it is then in the position shown in Figure 1. The second body part 12 forms the press plate and is attached to the first body part 11 receiving the heating plate 10 along one side by means of hinges indicated by arrows 18. The handle 15 is attached to the body part 11, for example by means of rotating sleeves 17.

To hold an item of clothing, such as trousers, the body part 12 forming the press plate can additionally be equipped with holding rods 20, 21, as shown in FIG. 1, which extend parallel to the folding axis of the handle 15 and which are also fastened to the body part 12 by means of hinges 22, 23 along the side on which the body parts 11, 12 are connected to one another via hinges. The support rods 20, 21 can be folded down from the body part 12 via these hinges as a fulcrum. The foldability of the support rods 20, 21 enables the trousers to be smoothed and ironed to be easily inserted and fixed in an overhanging end region.

On the side opposite the hinges 18, the body part 12 is equipped with locking clips 24, 25 which grip over the edge of the body part 11 when the body parts 11, 12 are closed and the ironing press device is closed, and thus the necessary permanent contact pressure on the pants inserted between the body parts exercise. Locking devices other than the simple locking clip shown here can also be used. The locking clips 24, 25 are fastened to the body part 12 by means of a hinge, so that they can be pulled in a simple manner when the body parts 11, 12 are brought together over the body part formed by the box 11. In Figure 1, the ironing press is shown in function.
