Abstract

A device for remarkably reducing consumption of fuel or power of an automobile run by an internal combustion engine or a motor. A device for coupling and disconnecting an input shaft (7a) and an output shaft (7b) and a one-way clutch are interposed between a driving source and wheels to be driven of an automobile. The automobile is caused to run forward by transmission by means of the one-way clutch, and the automobile is put into an inertia running when it is restored to an initial stage where an accelerator is stepped down, and engine braking is effected by coupling the input shaft (7a) and the output shaft (7b) when the accelerator is released or a brake pedal is applied. Alternately, the automobile is put into an inertia running when the accelerator is released, and the engine braking is effected by coupling the input shaft (7a) and the output shaft (7b) when the brake pedal is stepped down.
