Abstract

A method of preparing a lipophilic, proteinaceous extract of a casein-containing composition comprises contacting a casein-containing product with a (C1-C4) hydrocarbyl alcohol or a (C2-C4) ketone in the presence of about 0.01 to 5g calcium ions expressed as g CaC2/g protein in the composition at a pH of about 5.0 to 8.5 and a temperature of about 35 to 70° for a period of time effective to obtain a lipophilic, proteinaceous extract, and recovering the hydrocarbyl alcohol or ketone extract from the product. An insecticidal composition comprises the insecticidal extract and a membrane transfer agent of the invention in an insecticidal ratio. A kit comprises the insecticidal composition of the invention in a sealed container and directions for its use. A method of combatting insects and/or slugs comprises applying to an area in need of treatment an insecticidal or anti-slug amount of the insecticidal composition of the invention.
