Definitions

  • the present invention relates to apparatus to enable the user to practise a ball game, the game not being limited to the type wherein a ball is struck with a playing instrument, such particularly as golf, but also including, it is envisaged, the type in which the ball is struck or otherwise propelled directly by the player.
  • the object of the present invention is to provide a simple practice apparatus which enables an ordinary ball to be struck, which can be used in a confined space and which enables accuracy of striking to be assessed.
  • Practice apparatus of the invention comprises: a target screen of resiliently deformable material able both to absorb the kinetic energy of a ball as it strikes the screen by local deformation such as to show the point of impact of the ball and to resiliently recover for indication of the point(s) of impact of subsequently struck ball(s) and means for supporting the target screen from a frame.
  • the screen may be of "self-skinning" foam material, I prefer to employ a built-up screen with an energy-absorbing, slow-recovery, foam material body and a skin applied to the impact side of the body.

  • the skin is of elastomeric material, to enable it to deform sufficiently to conform to the temporary indentation of the foam on impact by the ball.

The peripheral edges 16 of the backing 14 are turned over the edges 15 of the skin. A front piece 17 of synthetic textile material covers the edge zones of the body 11 and skin 12. Abstract
