Abstract

An installation for applying coatings on articles by explosion of a conductor comprises electrodes (1) connected to a pulsed current source (2) and spaced from each other. The article (4) to be treated is placed in the interelectrode space. The electrodes (1) are shaped as bodies of revolution located in relation to each other so as to provide an annular gap (5) inbetween, through which passes the conductor (6) to be exploded. The installation is provided with an ionizer (7) of the gas contained in the gaps (5) between the electrodes (1). When an electric voltage is applied to the electrodes (1) and to the conductor the gas filling the gaps (5) is ionized. When a potential difference is created at the electrodes (1) by means of the source (2) a discharge takes place in the gaps (5) and the space between the electrode (1) and the conductor (6) becomes electroconductive. A high-power current pulse is generated in the conductor (6) under the influence of which the latter explodes. Very small particles of the conductor (6) are deposited on the internal surface of the article (4) and form a coating on it. Thus, any contact of the electrodes (1) with the conductor (6) is excluded and the conductor (6) is evenly heated.
