Abstract

Process for producing corrosion-resistant coatings on metal surfaces, namely iron, steel, zinc, titanium, magnesium and/or preferably aluminium and their alloys, by applying a heteropolycondensate of silicic acid obtained from (a) at least one compound of the general formula (I): X3Si-O-AlX2, where the Xs are identical or independently denote hydrogen, hydroxy, halogen, alkoxy with 1 to 22 carbon atoms or acyloxy with 2 to 22 carbon atoms, (b) at least one compound of the general formula (II): RmSiX4-m, where X is as defined above, R is a straight-chain and/or branched-chain alkyl residue with 1 to 20 carbon atoms, a straight-chain and/or branched-chain alkenyl residue with 2 to 20 carbon atoms, an aryl residue with 6 to 10 carbon atoms, an alkylaryl residue with 7 to 28 carbon atoms, an alkylalkenyl residue with 3 to 22 carbon atoms, or an alkenylaryl residue with 8 to 28 carbon atoms and m is equal to 1, 2 or 3, and (c) at least one compound of the general formula (III): SiX4, where the Xs are identical or independently have the meaning given above, provided that at least one residue is not hydrogen.
