Description

Suspension device applicable to forks and seatposts for cycles and rolling object.
In existing fork suspension systems, the systems provided with a telescopic fork or a pendulum system are on the one hand very heavy and on the other hand the position of the damping system absorbs part of the developed power during the effort on a slope or during start-ups in the case of the pendulum, the movements of the latter contradict and consequently absorb the effort. It has also been proposed in this field by patent application FR 2632254, a suspension device applicable in particular to the front and rear fork on cycle or rolling object consisting of an assembly comprising on the one hand, an axis integral with the support of wheel sliding on a ring placed in a tube directly from the frame or mounted on a ball on the chassis or frame; an elastic element such as a spring or rubber buffer of low height being interposed between said tube of the frame and or between the tube mounted on ball and the wheel support, the axis comprising an upper part of smaller diameter provided with means holding sliding in rotation such as fluted, oblong, or half-round, flat or provided with grooves allowing it to slide in a sleeve itself provided with a corresponding female part secured to said tube which is connected to a control member to allow the transmission of the direction in the case of a front fork.
The object of the present invention is to provide improvements to the structure of such a device in order to improve the efficiency of the elastic element at the level of a fork and also applicable in the same way to a cycle seat post or rolling object.
. System applicable to the fork and seatpost of cycles or rolling objects. Indeed, the natural action of a cyclist after having absorbed a shock on the front is to anticipate the transmission of this shock at the level of the saddle, thus a suspension at the level of the saddle avoids such fatigue and will be d 'all the better perceived that it will have the same reactions as those of the front fork. .
According to a 1st characteristic, the invention relates to a suspension device applicable in particular to cycles or rolling objects in uneven sites of the type comprising an elastic element interposed between an axially displaceable rod, integral with a movable part of said cycle or rolling object and a element of the frame, the said rod being guided by at least one sliding ring and a sleeve for holding the said axis in rotation, characterized in that the elastic element is axially subdivided into at least one part of large section intended to absorb shocks violent and in at least a part of small section intended to crush in priority and to absorb vibrations and low loads.
According to a second characteristic, the elastic element is made of flexible rubber-like material consisting of solid lower (17) and upper (15 ') parts separated by interior (16) and or exterior (16') lateral spaces defining zones of reduced section designed in such a way that they constantly absorb the part of the load which is on the front or under the load transported on the cycle or rolling object and on the other hand the shocks and vibrations due to uneven terrain. In this case and according to a particular embodiment illustrated in FIG 5 this elastic element (6) is formed of a rubber block or sleeve of a shape, a thickness and a diameter such that it can absorb : on the one hand the low loads and vibrations, by means defined by at least one groove either inside (16) in the rubber opening into the central bore (19) or outside (16), and on the other hand the shocks very violent by an upper solid part (15) and a lower solid part (17) in order to avoid tailgating; therefore, this elastic element (6) reacts at the same time to viorations, to violent shocks with a small clearance, hence the possibility of adapting it to all cycles or rolling objects; this elastic element being interposed either between the fork head (7) and the frame or chassis (13) of the cycle or rolling object, or between the seatpost and the frame responds directly to shocks transmitted from bottom to top.
According to another embodiment, the elastic element (6) is provided with at least a part of large cross-section and a part of reduced cross-section so as to define at least two zones of different compressibility, that of small cross-section ensuring the 'ab sorption of vibrations and that of large section absorption of shocks due to unevenness of the ground, the elastic element in one piece in the form of a rubber block of external section successively comprises a wide part and a reduced part for example frustoconical as illustrated in FIG 6.
According to another variant, the elastic element consists on the one hand of a metal spring (29) of the type with helical coils defining the element of large section bearing on at least one of these ends on a rubber element (30) of small thickness and greater flexibility defining the part of reduced section which is crushed as a priority as illustrated in FIG 7.
According to another feature seen in FIG 5, the elastic element (6) designed to absorb vibrations and shocks has a cavity (20) to receive the tube (1) which is thus inserted between the upper dust cover edges (18) forming a seal between the tube (1) and the axis (3), bearing on the upper part (15) of the elastic element (6) of a thickness designed to absorb the load on the front, as well as the vibrations, thanks to one or more grooves (16 ') spaced outside of the elastic element (6) and one or more grooves (16) inside, opening into the central bore (19) of the passage of the axis (3) as described above.
Thus in the elastic rubber element (6), when the upper part (15) bears on the part (17), the load is collected by a partial crushing of the rubber at the level of the groove (16), (16 ' ) similarly, the small vibrations are collected by the remaining stroke of these grooves (16), (16 '), while the violent shocks are collected by the two blocks (15), (17) in direct support one on the other. As a variant, the elastic element may be constituted, according to another embodiment, by at least two superposed O-rings (21) rubber, as illustrated in FIG 2, 3. The operation is identical, the seals under the effect of the load will deform tending to pass from a circular section to a square section which is the one encountered when they are subjected to violent shocks, the curvilinear spaces (24) between seals (21), correspond to the grooves (16), (16 ' ) of the rubber block (6). In this case, to ensure the external lateral retention of the O-rings (21) it is necessary to provide an outer ring (22) or a cavity (23) FIG 1 provided for positioning the elastic element for example in the case of a fork between the fork head (7) and the tube (1) which is mounted on a ball (5) on the chassis or frame (13) of the cycle or rolling object.
According to another characteristic, the elastic element (6) or (21) is disposed in a cavity (23) provided in the upper part of the fork head (12), which allows part or all of the element to be inserted. chosen elastic and thus avoid raising the front part of the frame by transferring to the side of the fork, part or all the size of the elastic element here. The inside diameter of the cavity (23) corresponding to the outside diameter of the elastic element (6-21) chosen, thus ensuring its lateral hold and avoiding the use of a retaining ring (22).
According to an embodiment illustrated in FIG 2 relating to a suspension for fork, the fork head comprises a ring (1 2) with cavity (23) and on which ring, can be secured laterally, directly the fork sleeves (10) the axis (3) being fitted axially in said head (12).
According to another feature of the invention illustrated in FIG 4 also relating to the suspension of a cycle fork. The sleeve (4) for guiding the upper part (11) of the axle (3) ûe fork may be provided with means for adjusting in vertical position such as for example holes (26), spaced along the length and- on either side of the sleeve (4) on the lateral part with threading of the said holes (26) and holes in the tube (1) to position the sleeve (4) or alternatively a slot on the tube so as to follow the element elastic, the chosen travel, to be joined at the desired height the said sleeve (4) on the tube (1) using screws or bolts (25).
