  • the thickness of the viscous damping layer can be 50 micrometres or greater with suitably high-viscosity damping fluids, so that no tribological (fretting, pick up, wear) problems will arise with dimensional tolerances within normal engineering practice. Close proximity of the two surfaces, as on some existing machines, is not needed; this again avoids tribological problems, and the inconsistent vibration damping which frequently results from stick-slip when the two surfaces are in close proximity or intermittent contact.

Abstract

Dans une structure mécanique comprenant une paire de composants travaillant en coopération et séparés par une couche de matériau amortisseur de vibrations, la géométrie des surfaces constituant l'interface entre les composants est conçue de sorte que le matériau amortisseur empêche toute vibration des composants. Le matériau amortisseur, qui peut être constitué par de l'air ou par un autre fluide, est placé entre une languette longitudinale (18A) d'un composant (18) et une rainure longitudinale (18B) d'un composant (17) sur lequel le composant (18) coulisse linéairement; dans une variante, ce matériau est placé entre une broche rotative mue (15A) et un stator faisant office de palier (15B), dans lequel la broche est montée, et dans un espace annulaire (15D) compris entre le stator (15B), ainsi qu'un prolongement annulaire (15C) de celui-ci, et le corps circonvoisin d'un porte-outil (9) dans lequel est monté le stator (15B).
