Abstract

The invention relates to a diameter measuring device for a loading harvester with fraction rollers, the shafts (3, 4) of which are moving in relation to each other in accordance with the diameter of a log. A chainlike element (2) is from its one end fixed to the shaft (4) of one traction roller and via a support (8) on the shaft (3) of the other traction roller connected and fixed to a chain pinion inside a casing (7) fixed on the shaft (3) of the other traction roller. The chain pinion is connected with a retracting spring and by an axle connected to an angle sensing element (1), the result of which is transformed to a log diameter reading.

Description

DIAMETER MEASURING DEVICE FOR LOADING HARVESTER
The object for the invention is a diameter measuring device for loading harvester, to which belongs an on the loading
harvester fixed sensing element.
5 The loading harvesters used in the forest logging opera¬ tions have measuring sensors for measuring of the diameter of the log to be treated. In the measuring sensors present¬ ly in general use the difficulty is to get the measured diameter transferred linearly, because the trajectory of
10 the drive pulleys, traction rollers or drawing rolls at the opening and closing of them is non-linear. Additional¬ ly a disadvantage is the fact, that the measuring sensors placed between the traction rollers are damaged easily be¬ cause of their location. The problem with the use of the
15 conventional on electric resistance based sensing elements is their unreliability because the external circumstances, such as for instance the temperature, the moisture, the charging voltage and the other factors have influence on the resistance value of these sensing elements. 20
The purpose with the invention is to bring about a diameter measuring device for loading harvester, by the use of which the measuring results are obtained in a linear way, the sensing element is located in a secure manner and with 25 which diameter measuring device reliable measuring results are obtained independently of the external circumstances.
The purpose with the invention is reached with a diameter measuring device, which is characterized by that, what has
30 been presented in the patent claims.
To the diameter measuring device in accordance with the invention belongs an interconnecting element, which is ar¬ ranged to reach from the shaft of the one traction roller
35 to the shaft of the other traction roller, and which is connected with the sensing element and arranged to mediate the distance between the shafts of the traction rollers to the sensing element. Due to the interconnecting element the sensing element is observing the distance between the shafts and the changes occurring in it and the information is transferred immediately to the sensing element. The sensing element can be placed either on the external side of the shaft of the traction roller or in some cases on the chassis of the loading harvester, so it does not get easily damaged. The device is simple, but functional to its structure and with it reliable measuring results are obtained.
In the following the invention is explained more in detail by referring to the attached drawing, in which figure 1 presents one application of the diameter measur¬ ing device in accordance with the invention fixed on the loading harvester and seen from the side, and figure 2 presents the sensing element of one diameter measuring device in accordance with the invention with the lid opened and seen from the side.
In the application presented in the figure 1 the casing, inside which the sensing element is placed, is fixed on the shaft 3 of the loading harvester's traction roller on its outer side. To the diameter measuring device belongs an interconnecting element 2, whereof on the figure 1 a chainlike element is to be seen, favourably a chain or a corresponding. The chainlike element is from its one end fixed to the casing, connected movably with the support 8 formed on the shaft 3 of the traction roller and fixed from its other end to the shaft 4 of the other traction roller.
In figure 2 inside the casing 7 are placed a sensing ele¬ ment 1, a chain pinion 5 and a tensioning device 6. The chain pinion is a part of the interconnecting element and the chainlike element is fixed to the chain pinion, which is connected by an axle to the sensing element. In this ap¬ plication the sensing element is an absolute angle sensing
**\ element, the gray-code of which is transformed in the measuniήg device to a diameter reading. The tensioning de¬ vice 6 is in this application a retracting spring, which is connected with the chain pinion, and arranged to span the chainlike element and to eliminate play.
10 When using the loading harvester the shafts of the traction rollers are moving in relation to each other in accordance with the thickness diameter of the log. The chainlike ele¬ ment is transferred according to the movement of the shafts and it is moving the chain pinion. The movement of the chain
15 pinion is mediated by the axle to the sensing element, as a result of which the thickness diameter of the log is ob¬ tained. When the shafts are moving towards each other the tensioning device is turning the chain pinion and the chain¬ like element is continuously in a tense state.
20
The invention is not limited to the presented application, but it can vary within the frames of the patent claims.
