Description

A Building Element
The present invention relates to a building element, such as a nalilng batten, which comprises an elongated, preferably nailable body which is intended to be secured by fasteners to another building element, such as a prefabricated concrete building-element and therewith to form a means of preferable internal attachment of sheet-like elements in the form of ceiling boards, wall panels or like elements in a building. It is known to embody nailing battens in prefabricate concrete elements for instance, or to nail such battens to prefabricated concrete elements, and then to nail ceiling boards or the like to the nailing battens or like nailing elements. A significant problem encountered with these known constructions, however, is that sound propagates through the ceiling structures concerned, e.g. through the floor structures located between the different stories of a multi-story apartment building.
The present invention relates to a building element which will provide a solution to this problem. The invention thus enables dampening of sound between the floors of the different stories of a building and also significant reduction in structure-borne sound, and also affords the possibility of dispensing with the use of heavy building materials in the construction of ceilings and enables the use, e.g., of simple sheets of chipboard or particle board instead.
The invention thus relates to a building element, such as a so-called nailing batten, which comprises an elongated, preferably nailable body, which can be secured to another building element, such as a prefabricated concrete building-element, with the aid of fastening devices, such as nails, and which is intended to form means for the attachment of surfacing layers in building structures, primarily internal surfacing layers, such as sheet-like surfacing layers in the form of ceiling boards, inside-wall panels or the like. The building element is characterized in that the body has preformed therein at least one through-passing hole, and in that the building element includes a fastening device which extends freely, or substantially freely through the hole and exits from the hole on a first side of the body and enters the other building element and fastens therein; and in that the fastener device has a head-part or the like which supports against the opposite side of said body relative to the aforesaid first side thereof.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to exemplifying embodiments thereof and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which
- Figure 1 illustrates schematically a sectional view of a first embodiment of an inventive building element, said view being taken substantially transversely to the longitudinal axis of the building element and showing the building element fastened to a prefabricated concrete element by means of nail fasteners;
- Figure 2 illustrates schematically an arrangement which is essentially similar to Figure 1 and which is seen from either the right or the left of Figure 1, where a piece of the prefabricated concrete element is shown in its entirety; and
- Figure 3 illustrates a concrete-element and building-element arrangement in more detail and in a view essentially similar to Figure 1.
Figure 1 illustrates an inventive building element which includes an elongated, preferably nailable body 1 which is intended to be fastened to a further building element 3 with the aid of a fastener device 2 and which forms an anchoring point on which a surface sheet, preferably an indoor surface sheet, such as a ceiling board, inner-wall panel or the like, can be fastened to said other building element.
The body 1 has preformed therein at least one through-passing hole 4. A fastener device 2, such as a nail, a screw or some corresponding fastener device, extends freely, or substantially freely, through the hole 4 and exits from the hole on a first side 5 of the body 1 , and enters the other building element 3 and fastens therein. The fastener device 2 has a head-part 6 or the like which supports against the side 7 of the body 1 located opposite said first side 5. According to one embodiment, the head-part 6, or corresponding part, of the fastener device is intended to bear against the body 1 through the intermediary of a resilient member 8 which has a vibration and oscillation damping effect. In the case of the illustrated embodiment, the resilient member 8 is conceived to be a damping ring which encircles the fastener device and which is made of rubber, a rubber-based material, or some like material. The body 1 may consist of a wooden nailing batten, although said body may have some other form and may comprise material other than wood.
The body may also be non-nailable, or may comprise only certain parts through which a nail can be driven. In many instances, the fastening device 2 will preferably have the form of a nail, screw or like device and will have a diameter or the corresponding which is markedly smaller than the diameter of the hole 4. The head-part 6 of the fastener device will, of course, be larger than the diameter of the hole, in all instances.
According to one embodiment of the invention, the end 9 of the hole on the side 7 of the body opposite the first side 5 has a countersink 8' in which the head-part, or like part of the fastener device is intended to bear.
Also illustrated is an embodiment in which the other building element 3 consists of a concrete element 3 which has a nailable fastener element 11 located at a free-surface 10 thereof. The fastening element 11 is intended to receive the fastener device 2 and extends to a given depth in the concrete element, with the outer surface 12 of the fastening element 11 located in the plane of the free-surface 10. In many instances, building elements and fastening elements according to Swedish
Patent No. .......... (Swedish Patent Application No. 8802031-8) and illustrated schematically in Figure 3 are to be preferred. In this case, the building element is preferably prefabricated and made essentially of concrete and has embedded in one side thereof a fastening element which forms an anchoring point to which another building element can be fastened to said prefabricated building element. The fastening element includes a spacing and nailing block 11' made of a nailable plastics material and intended to receive one or more fastening devices 2 in the form of nails, screws or corresponding fastening devices, and further includes means 13 for fixating reinforcement devices 14 in spaced relationship with a first side 12 of the fastening element, this first side 12 being intended to lie essentially flush with the free side 10 of the building element in which the fastening element is imbedded.
It is convenient in many instances to adapt the length of the fastening devices in relation to the aforesaid given depth, such as to enable the fastening devices to be inserted, e.g. pushed, to the extent of said depth while the head-part of the fastener device, at the same time, rests against the body with said body being spaced from the second building element while driving the fastener device into the second building element. In other words, when said first surface 5 of the body 1 lies against the second building element 3, the fastener device can be inserted to the extent of said depth without the head-part 6 of the fastener device coming into contact with said body. The manner in which the inventive building element functions will be understood essentially from the aforegoing. The body 1, i.e. the nailing batten or corresponding element, is thus fastened to the other building element, normally part of the building structure, with the aid of fastening devices, in a manner such as to prevent the transmission of vibrations, oscillations, etc., i.e. primarily sound, between the body and said other building element, i.e. normally parts of the structure of a building. In the preferred case, the body 1 is thus not in contact with said other building element, other than via the head-part 6 of the fastener device, and then only through the intermediary of said damping member 8. Those vibrations which occur will thus only be
transmitted to a very small extent between said body 1 and said parts of the building structure or framework. In the case of the embodiment illustrated for example in Figure 1, the body 1 is intended to hang vertically from a concrete element which forms part of a floor structure, so as to leave a space 15 between the body 1 and said other building element 3, such that said body can be said to be suspended by the fastener device 2.
It will be apparent from the aforegoing that the invention provides considerable advantages in relation to known techniques. Thus, the invention provides a simple means for the prevention of sound propagation between, e.g. the stories or floors of a building through connections between the various floor structures or corresponding structures and ceiling fas tener-devices or the fastener devices of corresponding structures.
The invention has been described in the aforegoing with reference to illustrative embodiments thereof. It will be understood, however, that other embodiments are also conceivable and that minor modifications can be made without departing from the concept of the invention.
For instance, the aforesaid other building element 3 may have other forms and application of the invention can vary from floor structure to inner wall structures, etc.
