Abstract

The connector, usable particularly in the car industry, comprises two elements (10, 12) which may coupled and of which one of them carries a tapped rotary locking ring (16) which cooperates with a threaded portion of the other element, the ring having distributed internal teeth which have each a ridge separating a slight slope face from a steep slope face with respect to the circumferential direction. The element which carries the ring is also provided with elastic blades built in at one end and of which the other end cooperates with the bottom of the teeth in order to form a ratchet opposed to the rotation of the ring (16) in the unscrewing direction. Each element is directed from the unbedding in a direction such that it is tensioned by the action of the spring (16) upon unlocking. The free end has an elbow directed radially towards the outside and of which the angle is of the same order as that between the faces of the teeth, the steep slope face bearing against the elbow upon unlocking.

Description

The invention relates to electrical connectors of the type having two complementary coupled elements, one of which carries a threaded rotary locking ring which cooperates with a threaded part of the other element, the ring comprising internal teeth which are repaired. each have an edge separating a face of slight slope from a face of steep slope relative to the circumferential direction, the element which carries the ring also being provided with elastic blades fitted at one end and the other end of which is free and cooperates with the bottom of the teeth to constitute a snap opposing the rotation of the ring in the direction of unscrewing, for which said other end abuts against the faces of steep slope.
Such connectors are often called "self-locking", in the sense that the torque to be exerted to unscrew the ring is higher than that necessary to tighten it. They find an important application in aeronautics where the vibrations are liable to cause loosening of the threaded connections and where the bayonet bolts are excluded in many cases, in particular as electrical connection connectors associated with the engine.
Many self-rusting connectors are already known, the elastic blades of which are integral with a washer immobilized in rotation relative to the element carrying the thread. They do not make it possible to obtain high values of the ratio between the screwing and unscrewing couples (US-A-4,030,798) or they present a risk of bracing of the elastic blades wedging the connector in the delivery position ¬ fully complete. The invention aims to provide an electrical connector of the type defined above making it possible to obtain a high value, up to 3, of the ratio between the screwing and unscrewing couples and this without risk of jamming. To this end, the invention proposes a connector in which each blade is directed, from the embedding, in a direction such that it is tensioned by the action of the ring during the unlocking and has at its free end a bend directed radially outwards and whose angle is of the same order as that between the faces of the teeth, the face of steep slope coming to bear against the elbow during unlocking.
Thanks to this arrangement there can be no bracing of the blades upon unlocking and it is possible to give the steep sides an almost radial inclination, the residual angle relative to the radial direction from the bottom of the teeth. being directed rearwards relative to the " direction of rotation of the ring when unlocked.
The recessed end of each blade can be fixed very simply, for example by wedging the end into a slot in the element carrying the ring, using a wedge or an elastic tab cut out of the blade.
In general, the blade will successively present, from its embedding, a part having a direction almost at 90 * relative to the radius, a fold making an angle of about 90 * and a free end having an acute angle bend , directed outward in the radial direction.
L'invention sera mieux-comprise à la lecture de la description qui suit d'un connecteur constituant un mode particulier de réalisation et de variantes, donnés à titre d'exemples non limitatifs. La description se réfère aux dessins qui l'accompagnent, dans lesquels : - la figure 1 est une vue simplifiée en élévation et en coupe partielle du connecteur, en fin de serrage de la liaison filetée ;The invention will be better understood on reading the following description of a connector constituting a particular embodiment and variants, given by way of non-limiting examples. The description refers to the accompanying drawings, in which: - Figure 1 is a simplified view in elevation and in partial section of the connector, at the end of tightening of the threaded connection;
- la figure 2 est une vue partielle, en coupe suivant la ligne II-II de la figure 1 ;- Figure 2 is a partial view, in section along the line II-II of Figure 1;
- la figure 3 est un schéma à g..-...Je échelle montrant une forme de lame à l'état libre ;- Figure 3 is a diagram in g ..-... I scale showing a blade shape in the free state;
- les figures 4 et 5, similaires à la figure 3, montrent des variantes de réalisation des lames à l'état fléchi élastiquement par appui contre la bague ;- Figures 4 and 5, similar to Figure 3, show alternative embodiments of the blades in the elastically bent state by pressing against the ring;
- la figure 6 montre l'extrémité encastrée de la lame de la figure 5, vue dans le sens de la flèche VI ;- Figure 6 shows the embedded end of the blade of Figure 5, seen in the direction of arrow VI;
The electrical connector shown in FIG. 1 includes two couplable elements 10 and 12, the internal constitution of which is indifferent and can for example be that described in patent application FR 85 12289. In this case each element comprises a tubular body containing a hard insulation for receiving contacts (pins or sockets).
A locking ring 16 is mounted on the body 14 of the insulation 12. This ring is tapped over a fraction of its length so that it can be screwed onto a thread 18 provided on the body of the element 10.
The locking ring 16 is free to rotate on the body of the element 12 but it is retained in the axial direction. For this, in the case shown in Figure 1, the ring 16 has a shoulder provided to come into abutment against a washer 26 empri¬ sounded in a groove of the body 14 and it has a thin rear skirt 19 constricted behind a ring 20 retained against a radial shoulder 24 of the body 14.
It can be seen in FIG. 2 that the ring 16 has teeth directed radially inwards, regularly distributed in the circumferential direction, at number of fourteen in the illustrated embodiment. Each tooth can be viewed as successively comprising (in the locking direction) a front face 27 of slight average slope and a rear face 28 of steep slope, separated by a sharp edge 30. In practice, good ones will generally be obtained results with an angle of a few degrees between face 28 and the radial direction.
The bottom of each tooth may be cylindrical between a face 28 and the face 27 which follows it and occupies the space between the end of the cylindrical part and the next edge 30. It is thus possible to give the inclined part a slope sufficient to ensure an elastic inclique¬ tage, yielding however under a low torque u screwing.
Les dents coopèrent avec des lames élastiques d' encliquetage 31 dont une extrémité est encastrée dans le corps 14 de l'élément 12. Ces lames, au nombre de quatre sur la figure 2, sont régulièrement réparties dans le sens circonférentiel. Chacune de ces lames peut être regardée comme comportant, à partir de l'encastre¬ ment dans le corps 14 et dans le sens de la flèche f (sens de rotation de la bague 16 lors du déverrouillage) : - une partie se raccordant par un coude à l'extrémité encastrée, droite à l'état libre (figure 3) faisant un angle faible ou nul par rapport à la tan¬ gente ; dans le cas montré en figures 2 et 3, l'angle entre 1' extrémité encastrée et la partie qui lui est raccordée est d'environ 100" et l'extrémité encadrée fait un angle d'environ 10* par rapport au rayon ;The teeth cooperate with elastic snap-fit blades 31, one end of which is embedded in the body 14 of the element 12. These blades, four in number in FIG. 2, are evenly distributed in the circumferential direction. Each of these blades can be viewed as comprising, from the encastre¬ ment in the body 14 and in the direction of the arrow f (direction of rotation of the ring 16 during unlocking): - a part connected by a bend at the embedded end, straight in the free state (Figure 3) making a small or zero angle with respect to the tangent; in the case shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the angle between the embedded end and the part which is connected to it is approximately 100 "and the framed end makes an angle of approximately 10 * with respect to the radius;
- un pli- faisant un angle d'environ 90* au repos par rapport à la partie précédente, destiné à venir s'appuyer contre les faces successives de pente forte ; - et enfin, une extrémité libre se raccordant au pli par un coude à angle aigu, de valeur approximative- ment égale à celle des faces de la couronne, présentant une longueur suffisante pour déborder de la partie cylindrique du fond de dent.- a fold at an angle of approximately 90 * at rest relative to the previous part, intended to come to bear against the successive faces of steep slope; - and finally, a free end connecting to the fold by an acute angle elbow, of approximate value- ment equal to that of the faces of the crown, having a length sufficient to extend beyond the cylindrical part of the tooth base.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 1, the blades 31 are locked in grooves 32 uncou¬ pées in the element 14 using shims 34 engaged by force. This is not the only solution. The embedded ends can be trapped by other means. In the case shown in Figure 4, the wedge is supported on an elasti¬ city boss 36 formed in the recessed part. In the case shown in Figures 5 and 6, the recessed end is maintained by two tabs 38 cut in the recessed part and projecting backwards. The legs 38 are oriented so that their elasticity allows the introduction of the embedded end but opposes the removal of the blade.
Instead of wedging by wedge engaged by force (Figure 4) or elastic tab (Figures 5 and 6), one can use a fixing by deformation, for example of the kind shown in Figure 7. In Figure 7 the wedge 34, possibly provided of an impression intended to receive a boss 36, is engaged with gentle friction. It has two lateral notches 40. It is immobilized by engagement in the notches of projections of material belonging to the body 14, produced by needle punching. This deformation is easily obtained on the production line, with a determined depth.
In all cases, the blade may be produced by cutting a strip and bending with the press, the strip being oriented during cutting so that the length of the blade, from one end to the other, is in the direction of rolling.
The invention is susceptible of numerous variants still other than those described above and it should be understood that the scope of this patent extends to all variants remaining within the framework of equivalences.
