Definitions

  • the invention concerns a pick-up of the type stated in the introductory portion of claim 1 and is based on the idea of making the attachment of the front part to the base unit additionally secure by using a locking means, which is to be activated manually, and of combining this locking means with a visor to protect the sensing system.
  • a visor has typically three positions, a position of use, a central position and a protecting position, and may also be adapted to perform functions for use in the adjustment of the pick-up with respect to the grammophone record or to act as a magnifying glass to facilitate correct position of in the record groove.
  • the pick-up of the invention is constructed as stated in the characterizing portion of claim 1, thus ensuring that the pivot pins of the visor also serve as locking pins in such a manner that the front part can be removed only when the visor is in its central position.
  • the embodiment defined in claim 3 permits the inclined front wall of the recesses to apply a pressure with a rearwardly directed component against the looking pin during the insertion of it into the recess, so that the entire front part is subjected to a rearward pressure to engage base unit parts adapted for this purpose.
  • fig. 1 is a perspective view of an embodiment of the pick-up of the invention with the base unit and the front part separated,
  • fig. 2 is a side view of the front part with a visor in three different positions
  • fig. 3 is a greatly enlarged and perspective view of the parts of the pick-up which serve to couple the front part and the base unit together, and
  • fig. 4 is a likewise enlarged horizontal section through a part of a pick-up in an assembled state.
  • 10 is the base unit of a magnetic pick-up, which has a guide pin 11 for a removable front part 12 containing the movable stylus system 13 of the pick-up and having a box-shaped housing 14 for snug reception of the guide pin 11.
  • a visor 15 is pivotably journalled on the front part 12 by means of two co-axial bearing pins 16 which extend through holes 17 in the side walls of the housing 14.
  • the visor 15 is made of a suitable plastics material with a certain elasticity which permits the side walls with the bearing pins 16 to move slightly away from each other under elastic deformation, and which, in an assembled state of the pick-up, affects the side walls with an inwardly directed force x, fig. 4.
  • the inner side of the visor side walls is formed with a circular elevation 18 which is co-axial with the bearing pin 16 and whose end face is roof-shaped, it being formed by two plane faces 19 intersecting each other along a diagonal at an angle somewhat below 180°.
  • the side walls of the front part housing 14 is formed with circular depressions 20 to receive the elevations 18.
  • the bottom of each depression is formed by two plane faces 21 which are inclined inwardly toward the centre and intersect each other along a diagonal 22 at the same angle as the roof faces 19 of the elevations.
  • each bearing pin 16 extends through the hole 17 in the side wall of the front part housing 14 and into a recess 23 in the guide pin 11 of the base unit 10.
  • This, recess is rectangular as shown in figs. 1 and 3 and is disposed at the lower edge of the guide pin 11.
  • it has an inwardly and rearwardly inclined front wall 24 which cooperates with the bearing pin 16 during the insertion of it into the recess so that the force Y acting between the front wall and the bearing pin affects the front part with a rearwardly directed force Z, which urges a rearwardly directed edge face 25 on the front part against a forwardly directed edge face 26 on the base unit 10.
  • the front part with the visor is thus securely attached to the base unit.
  • the diagonals between the roof faces 19 of the elevations 18 and the bottom faces 21 of the depressions 20, respectively, are so disposed with respect to each other that they coincide when the visor 15 is present in the position of use, as shown at A in fig. 2, and when it is in the protecting position, as shown at C in fig.2.
  • the bearing pins 16 extend into the recesses 23 and engage the front wall 24 of these as shown in fig. 4. If the visor is rotated through 90° from one of these positions to the central position shown in fig. 2B, the roof ridge of the elevations 18 move up the inclined bottom faces 21 of the depressions 20, so that the bearing pins 16 are urged outwardly and clear the recesses 23, and then the visor 15 may be pulled out of the base unit.
  • bearing pins 16 both serve as pivot pins for the visor and axially slidable locking pins.
