Definitions
- the present invention relates to a sighting instru ⁇ ment for manually aimed weapons for firing at movable targets, said sighting instrument comprising a target tracer mounted on the weapon and laterally and vertically adjustable relative thereto, said target tracer being in the form of a range finder for producing signals indicating the range to the target at different points of time, a direct sighting means mounted on the weapon and laterally and vertically adjustable in parallel with the target tracer relative to the weapon, and setting means for such continuous lateral and vertical setting of the target tracer and the direct sighting means rela ⁇ tive to the weapon that, to hit the target, one must aim at the center thereof.
- a sighting instrument of this type is disclosed in SE Patent Application No.
- a sighting instrument of the type mentioned above vastly simplifies the manual aiming of the weapon con ⁇ cerned because it enables the marksman to concentrate entirely upon keeping the target in the center of the direct sighting means.
- the data processing unit thus is adapted to repetiti ⁇ vely produce the parameters representing the requisite point of allowance, and the setting means are adapted to continuously set the direct sighting means and the target tracer in accordance with the parameters at issue representing the point of allowance.
- the transducer output signals thus represent the lateral and vertical aim of the weapon, and therefore the data processing unit must produce the parameters representing the allowance point of the weapon on the basis of the movement of the point of allowance, not the movement of the target, for which reason fairly complicated calculations are required which are highly sensitive to any variations in the target tracing accuracy, especially such variations as are caused by hysteresis effects in time. It is the object of this invention to improve the sighting instrument described above in such a manner that production of the parameters representing the allow ⁇ ance point are simplified.
- the target tracer or the direct sighting means is provided with transducers for producing parameters representing the lateral and vertical aim of the target tracer and the direct sighting means, and in that the data processing unit is adapted to repeatedly produce, on the basis of these parameters as well as the parameters representing the weapon per ⁇ formance, parameters representing the requisite allowance point of the weapon.
- the construction according to the invention is possible because the direct sighting means and the target tracer are physically movable relative to the weapon, irrespective of whether the direct sighting means and the target tracer are provided with separate setting means or are intended to be actuated by common setting means, for example by being fixed relative to one another.
- the construction according to the invention thus makes it possible directly to determine the target move ⁇ ment and, on the basis thereof, the point of allowance. whereby the data processing unit can be made less compli ⁇ cated and calculation is simplified.
- a sight arm 1 is mounted on an antiaircraft gun 2.
- the sight arm carries a reflex sight 3 and a radar unit 4.
- the reflex sight 3 is supported by a bracket 5 pivotally mounted on a horizontal shaft in a head 6.
- the head 6 is pivotally mounted on an exten ⁇ sion of the sight arm 1 on a shaft perpendicular to said horizontal shaft.
- the radar unit 4 is supported similarily for rotation about a horizontal shaft and a shaft perpendicular thereto, by means of a bracket 7 on a head 8 mounted on a post 9 fixedly connected with the sight arm 1.
- the heads 6 and 8 contain electric motors for rotating the radar unit 4 and the reflex sight 3 about the horizontal axes and the axes perpen ⁇ dicular thereto.
- the motors serve as setting means for the reflex sight 3 and the radar unit 4 and are, like the radar unit 4, connected to a data processing unit not shown.
- the data processing unit is adapted to produce, from signals repeatedly produced by the radar unit and indicating the range to the target at different times, and signals which are obtained from transducers 10 mounted on the sight 3 or the radar unit 4 and which represent the lateral and vertical aim of the sight 3 and the radar unit 4, respectively, and from parameters representing the weapon performance, parameters which represent the requisite allowance point of the weapon at each point of time.
- the data processing unit also comprises transducer means for controlling the setting motors in accordance with the parameters representing the said point of allowance.
- the above-mentioned transducers 10 may be angular velocity transducers sensing the angular velocities of the sight 3 and thus the target movement in the form of the angular velocities thereof.
- the target movement can be calculated also by other types of transducers, for example angular transducers or angular acceleration transducers. Different types of transducers may be used also for lateral and vertical aiming. In this manner, the data processing unit can produce in a far simpler manner the parameters representing the point of allowance.
- the radar unit may be replaced by a laser unit for determining the target range.
- the target tracer and the sight can be mounted on one and the same laterally and vertically adjustable bracket.
- the sight may also be mounted for return movement to a neutral position in the event of a malfunction in the system, such as current failure, so that manual aiming and allowance can be carried out in conventional manner.
- both the sight and the target tracer may have separate parallel setting means.
- the weapon may also have two sights for vertical and lateral aiming of the weapon.
