Abstract

Trigger strings (12) of a guitar-like electronic musical instrument have transverse coils (10, 40) adjacent them which are cyclically supplied with h.f. a.c. current from a source (24). The coils provide signals dependent upon the absolute positions of the strings, and not just their velocities, to provide a reliable indication of when triggering of a note is desired by plucking of the string.
