Abstract

Design and application of a new process whose aim is to improve, simplify and reduce the weight of cramp irons for attachment to shoes for mountain climbing. The cramp irons comprise two parts in front (6) and behind from which extend sharp tips (8), characterized by the fact that the front part of the dorsal spine ends in a single frontal sharp tip (4) of the vertical type fitted with notches on the lower edge of the ice axe type. The technical design of this new cramp iron is characterized by the fact that both parts of it have dorsal spines which, together, make up the main dorsal spine which extends to the middle of the cramp iron in the longitudinal direction, and the two parts are fitted together, adjustable by means of their dorsal spines.

Description

CRAMPON WITH UNIQUE BACK PROTECTION, NEW DESIGN AND HAVING A SINGLE FRONT POINT OF THE PIOLET TYPE

The present invention relates to the design and application of a new process with the aim of improving the progression in the mountains and very high mountains as well as the fitting on the shoes of mountaineers of a crampon characterized by a new technological design intended to improve the safety of mountaineers.

Generally, the crampons are of a metallic design, in stamped sheet metal, composed of two parts conforming to the outline of the shoe, namely: the heel and the sole in its front part, the whole connected by a bar composed of rivets and screws ensuring the rigidity of the assembly.

The front and rear parts consist of two oblong-shaped elements whose teeth have been folded down around the periphery in order to secure the anchoring and the perforated central part.

In so-called "technical" crampons, the number of teeth is of the order of 12 to 14. This traditional design of crampons has the disadvantage of the harmful weight in progressions at high altitude, a general design difficult to adjust on the shoe and a more traditional vertical progression. The method of the present invention consists of an entirely new design of the spike built on a dorsal and main edge of the spike located in the middle of the spike in the direction of the length thus eliminating the parts bypassing the shoe. The invention will now be described with the aid of the accompanying drawings, in which; Figures I and II are perspective views of the two parts of a crampon according to the invention in assembled condition, and Figure III is a side view illustrating in detail the method of assembling the two parts of Figures I and II.

As we can see, the main dorsal edge ends with a single frontal point 4 comparable to the tip of an ice ax, whereas traditional crampons have always been composed of two horizontal points. The present invention is characterized by a vertical type tip, provided with a lower notch facilitating adhesion in the glazed walls. The front bar 6 is intended to receive the quick coupler in which the shoe will be received - the latter also bearing on this bar - and is characterized by a new arrangement of the two lateral points, the point 8 allowing a progression of the mountaineer on a flat terrain and the tip 10 a progression on a terrain whose slope is between 40 ° and 60 °, which ensures a maximum grip in this type of terrain configuration with the front tip 4. The rear part (fig. II) is characterized by an entirely new design which no longer goes around the heel of the shoe, but nevertheless allows, by its design, to obtain an adequate arrangement of the four rear points ensuring maximum notching. The method of the present invention also consists of a new device which makes it possible to ensure the adjustment of the stud to the length of the shoe by the device designated by the reference 10 ′ and detailed in FIG. III, The principle resides in multiple holes on the dorsal edge of the front part (fig. I) of the crampon intended to receive the rear part (fig. II).

The front end of the rear part (fig. III) has a flat illustrated at 12 having a male stud which is received in one of the holes in the dorsal edge of the front part and by a rotary movement of the rear part, that -by bowing will block and ensuring the rigidity of the spike expected that the adjustment thus obtained will correspond to the length of the shoe and that the rigidity will be obtained by fixing the shoe on said spike.

The assembly mode as illustrated in FIG. III, can also be conceived by an inclination and an assembly of the rear part operating below and contrary to the assembly mode described in relation to the figure. III.

To ensure the rigidity of the assembly, a central point 14 has been provided intended to avoid the weakness that. could engender such a conception.

The general design of the crampon is summed up by two elements which are entirely dependent on each other with the shoe and which become completely independent and without screws in order to ensure storage in a minimal location outside of its use.

The design of this crampon, according to the invention, is particularly intended for mountaineers progressing on average and very high mountain by a new design of the crampon providing, on average, a reduction of about 30% compared to traditional crampons , a single point at the front of the ice ax type, a design without rivet or screw of the crampon as well as a mini¬ mum of points for maximum efficiency.

Claims

1. Crampon intended to be put on a shoe for the progression in mountain, composed of two parts front and back on which depend protruding points, characterized in that the front part of the dorsal edge ends by a single frontal point of the vertical type and provided with a lower notch, that is to say of the ice ax type.

2. Cleat according to claim 1, characterized in that the two parts comprise άeâ dorsal edges together forming a main dorsal edge extending in the middle of the crampon in the direction of the length, and in that the two parts are assembled, with faculty of adjustment, by their dorsal edges.

3. Cleat according to either of claims 1 and 2, characterized in that the front part carries a bar intended to receive a quick coupler for receiving the shoe, and in that said bar carries spikes sideways arranged so as to ensure maximum clamping on flat ground and on terrain with slopes between 40 ° and 60 ° respectively.

4. Crampon according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterized in that the rear part carries four points arranged so as to ensure maximum notching.

5. Crampon according to any one of claims 1 to 4, characterized in that it comprises a central tip intended to ensure a reinforcement of the dorsal edge.

6. Cleat according to any one of claims 1 to 5, characterized in that the dorsal edge of the front part carries a multiplicity of holes and the rear part has a flat having a male stud received in one of said holes.

7. Crampon according to claim 6, characterized in that the locking and the rigidity of the crampon are ensured by rotation of the two parts relative to one another.
