発明の名称 固体電解質
技 術 分 野
本発明は、 水素イオン (一般にその水和物) 伝導性を有する固 体電解質に係リ、 水素一酸素燃料電池, 水素センサあるいは p H センサ等の電気化学装置に用いられる固体電解質に関する。
背 景 技 術
1 2 -タ ンダス ト リ ン酸 (H3PWi2( o · ηΗ2θ)などのへテロポリ 酸 (固体) はプロ トン伝導性固体電解質であるこ とは、 例えば、 0.Nakamura et al, Materials Research Billetin, 17, 231 (1982) などによって報告されている。 しかしながら炭素をへテロ原子と するヘテロポリ酸はいままで知られていなかった。
発 明 の 開 示
本発明の目的は、 燃料電池, 各種センサ, ECD (エレ ク ト 口 ク ロ ミ ック表示) 素子等へ用いる新規な固体電解質を提供するこ と に ある。
本発明に用いられる炭素をへテロ原子とするヘテロポリ酸は顕 著なプロ ト ン伝導性が認められ、 同物質がプロ トン伝導性固体電 解質であるこ と が判明した。 合成方法が簡単なこ と、 成型体を他 のへテロポリ酸よ り得易いこと等の利点がある。 また、 タングス ト リ ン酸等に比して水分に対して安定である。 また、 本発明の固 体電解質はその水溶液から堅固な薄膜を作成し得る点も利点であ る。
ヘテロポリ酸固体電解質は、 一般式、 M' xMyOz*—で表わされる
ヘテロポリア二オンと、 一般式、 H (m' H20)十 で表される水和プ 口 トンから構成される固体で、 この固体中をプロ トンが伝導する。 通常、 Mはタ ングステン (W) やモリブデン (M o ) で、 ヘテロ 原子 ' と して P, S i 、 A s などが知られている。 本発明の固 体電解質は、 M' が炭素 ( C ) であるへテロポリ酸で、 従来にな い新しい固体電解質である。 従来のへテ口ポリ酸は、 ポリ タ ンダ ステン酸 (あるいはポリモリ ブデン酸) とへテロ原子の酸 (例え ば 1 2酸) との液相反応によって合成されるが、 本固体電解質は これとは異な り、 炭化タ ングステン等と過酸化水素溶液の反応に よって合成される。
本発明のへテロポリ酸は、 炭素をへテロ原子と して含むヘテロ ポリ酸であ り一般式 M ' xMyOz*—で表わされるヘテロポリ ア二オン と H(m' H2O) で表わされる水和プロ トンから構成される固体で、 : yは 1〜 4 : 1 2の範囲にある。 上記一般式において M' は C , Mは W及び M。 からなる群から選ばれた少なく とも一種の元 素である。 また上記一般式は W03 * a C O 2 · b H2O 2 ·

発明を実施するための最良の形態
以下、 本発明の実施例を説明する。
実施例 1
炭化タ ングステン粉末 (WC) 1 6 g に 1 5 %過酸化水素
(H202) 水溶液 l O O m fi を加える。 ガスの発生が少な く なつ てから 3 % Η2〇2を 5 m fi追加する。 この操作を 5回繰して 2 4 時間以上室温で放置する と W Cは溶解し、 淡黄色の強酸性溶液が 得られる。 この溶液中のスス状炭素を濾過除去したのち、 溶液中 に含まれる過剰の H202を白金黒付白金網で分解除去する。 この 固体電解質原液を平底のガラス製容器に入れ固化する直前まで加 熱し、 その後室温に放置する。 2 4時間以上放置する とガラス状 の平板が得られる。 この固体は X線回折パタ ーンを示さず無定形 である。 この固体中の C : Wのモル比は 1 : 1 2 に近かった。 加 熱する と、 まず水分を失い 3 0 0 °C付近で C〇2を放ち分解し W 03となる。 赤外およびラマンスぺク トルには 9 5 0〜: 1000 cm— 1付近に強いバン ドが観測さ れる。 また赤外には 1300〜1400付 近に この物質特有の吸収スぺク トルが認め られる。 上記固体電解 質原液の 13 C— N M Rスぺク トルには、 T M S標準から 1 6 7 ΡΡΠΙ 付近に共鳴吸収線が認め られる。 したがって、 得られた固体 は炭素をへテ ロ原子とするヘテ ロポリ酸の一種である こ と はあき らかである。
上記、 平板状固体を用い第 丄 図に示したセルを構成した。 同図 において、 1 は固体電解質で上記平板状固体である。 この雨側に、 白金電極 2 , 3 を 白金スプリ ング 4 , 5 によ り押えつける。 この スプリ ングの一端は導線 6 , 7 と して外部に取出されている。 ガ ラス管 8 , 9 と固体電解質 1 の接合はエポキシ系接着剤 1 0 によ つて行ってある。 ガス入口 1 1 , 1 2 から 1 0 で水蒸気を飽和 させた水素を通じ、 出口 1 3 , 1 4 からそれぞれ排出させた。 こ
の時導線 6 , 7の間に生じる超電力は 0 Vであった。 つぎに、
1 1 から 1 0 °Cで水蒸気を飽和させた水素を、 1 2 からは 1 0 °C で水蒸気を飽和させた水素 1 0 % +アルゴン 9 0 %の混合ガスを 通じた。 セルの温度が 2 ひ。 Cのとき、 導線 6 , 7の間には
2 9.1 m V の起電力が生じた。 入口 1 2 から導入するガスの水 素濃度をいろいろ変化させたと ころ、 起電力 E (m V) は、
E = 2 9.1 β ogio P H2 (式 1 ) の式に従って変化した。 但し、 P H2は入口 1 2から入るガス中の 水素濃度である。
入口 1 2 から酸素を導入すると導線 6 , 7の間には約 I Vの起 電力が発生した。 スィッチ 1 5 を短絡する と 7 から 6へ電流が流 れることが電流計 1 6 によって確められた。
図 1 のセルに電流パルスを印加し、 その時見られる電圧応答か ら固体電解質の抵抗を見積ったと ころ、 2 0 °Cで約 5 0 0 Ωであ つた。 固体電解質の厚さが 0.2 on、 鼋槿面積が 0.2 of であった から、 その比抵抗は 5 0 0 Ω αηである。
実施例 2
実施例 1 と同様にして固体電解質原液を得た。 これを平底のガ ラス容器に入れ、 室温 (約 2 0 ) の空気を吹込み、 水分を蒸発 させて固化させた。 この固体も無定形であるが、 C : Wのモル比 は 1 : 9 に近かった。 加熱すると 2 0 0 付近から C〇2 を放ち 分解し wo3 となる。 他の性質は実施例 1 の固体とよ く似ており、 この固体も炭素をへテロ原子とするヘテロポリ酸 (固体) である ことはあき らかであった。
この平板状固体を用い、 実施例 1 と同じセルを構成した。 導線 6 , 7間に生じる起電力と水素濃度の関係を同様にして求めたと ころ、 式 1で示される濃度依存性が確認され、 この固体が水素ィ オン伝導性の固体電解貧であることがわかった。 この固体電解質 の比抵抗は 2 5 0 Ω αηであった。
実施例 3
実施例 1 における W Cの代わ り に炭化モ リブデン ( Μ ο 2 C ) を用い、 あとは同様に して固体電解質原液を得た。 これを室温で、 送風固化して得られる固体は、 : 0 が 1 : 1 1 に近いへテロ ポリ酸であった。 この平板状固体を用い、 第 1 図で示されるセル を構成し、 導線 6 , 7間に生じる超電力と水素濃度の関係を実施 例 1 と同様に測定した結果、 式 1で示される濃度依存性が得られ た。 この固体電解質の比抵抗は 3 0 0 Ω ( 2 0 °C) であった。
実施例 4
実施例 1 における W Cの替リ に、 W C : M o 2 Cモル比が 1 8 :
1 の混合物に H202を作用させ、 あと同様にして固体電解質原液 を調製した。 これを、 平底ガラス容器に入れ、 室温で送風固化さ せた。 得られた固体は、 C : 金属 ( W + M o ) モル比が 1 : 9 に 近いへテロポリ酸であった。 この平板状試料を用い、 第 1 図で示 すセルを構成し、 導線 6 , 7間に生じる超電力と水素濃度の関係 を求めたと こ ろ、 式 1 と同じ結果が得られ、 炭素, タ ングステン、 およびモ リ ブデンを含むヘテロポリ酸も水素イオン伝導性の固体 鼋解賓であることが認め られた。 この固体電解質の比抵抗は約 3 0 0 Ω ( 2 0 °C ) であった。
産業上の利用可能性 以上のよう に本発明の固体電解賓は優れた効果を示す。
