Abstract

It is essential for users of computer programs to study and understand the accompanying written operating instructions in order to be able to use the computer programs. Errors in the entry of data produce corresponding error indications in the output unit and the operator can, by means of the error code indicated, subsequently read in the written operating instructions what assistance is possible. In order to ensure user guidance for the entry of data into the working memory of a program-controlled data processing unit, the latter has an additional text memory in which the accompanying material relating to the computer program is stored and, by means of a control system and input-output-input unit, the accompanying material is read out from the text memory simultaneously with the program flow. Even if the accompanying material and computer program are stored together in the program memory, a control unit and input-output-input unit enable the simultaneous output of the memory regions nested inside one another, for example in various sub-regions of a display screen area.
