Abstract
The liquid friction coupling (1) operates with groups of discs (2, 3) which are engaged with each other and arranged within a cylindrical closed casing throwned with a working liquid subjected to shearing. The spacing between the discs increases as the temperature increases to enable the automatic adjustment of a temperature which does not endanger the coupling. This is obtained by the fact that the front walls (9, 10) of the casing delimit actually the groups of discs and that they are pressure-deformable.
Description
The invention relates to a fluid friction clutch according to the preamble of claim 1.
A fluid friction clutch is described and shown in DE-AS 21 35 791, the housing of which is closed and for the most part filled with a working fluid. A large filling of the housing is desirable in order to achieve a large transferable torque with a small construction volume. Complete filling, however, presents difficulties since, due to the greater volumetric expansion of the liquid, the pressure in the housing rises above the permissible level with increasing temperature. The degree of filling of this housing must therefore depend on the highest temperature to be expected, which can occur in extreme operating conditions. This often means that the optimum degree of filling for lower temperatures cannot be achieved.
In order to allow the expansion of the working fluid, it is also known to arrange expansion spaces closed by flexible components on the working space (FR-PS 776 210). Here, the axial spacing of the disks is reduced simultaneously with the expansion of the working fluid, so that the torque drop due to the temperature-dependent reduction in viscosity can be compensated for. The rarely occurring peak temperatures have to be taken into account in the design, which adversely affects the construction effort and the construction volume. This is particularly unfavorable if the fluid friction clutch is to be used in a distributor or differential gear.
The invention has for its object to provide a fluid friction clutch with little construction and small dimensions, which in the normal operating temperature range has good torque transmission characteristic, but is not destroyed under unfavorable operating conditions. This object is achieved by the characterizing feature of the first claim.
As the distance between the disks increases with temperature, the transmission losses and thus the heat accumulation in the clutch are reduced, so that even under unfavorable operating conditions an equilibrium is established between the heat generated and the heat dissipated. Extreme operating conditions can therefore not lead to a thermal overload of the fluid friction clutch and can therefore be disregarded when dimensioning the degree of filling. Coordination with a partial filling is possible in such a way that the distance between the panes does not change up to a predeterminable operating temperature and thus the transmissible torque is not reduced.
There are known annular pistons loaded by disc springs and arranged on the end face (DE-AS 11 57 442), which have a working surface. This changes its distance to the counter surface under the influence of the centrifugal force of the working fluid.
A fluid friction clutch with the features according to claims 2 and 3 can be represented in a simple manner and with little structural effort. It is possible that either only one or both housing end walls are completely or partially axially flexible. The flexibility should expediently be equal to or greater than 0.1 mm, multiplied by the number of disks. During operation, the available axial distance between the end walls of the housing will be distributed over the distances between the " disks. This process can expediently be accelerated by expanding means, for example spring elements between the disks (claim 6). Furthermore, slight curling of the disks or perforations in the form of slots or holes can promote this process (claims 7 and 8).
OMP
An¬ spruch 9) .OMP By running the sheet metal cages of the seals on the ring surfaces of the hub part, a minimum distance between the disks and thus a limitation of the maximum torque, in particular at low operating temperature, is achieved (claim 9).
By axially fixing at least one disk, the uniform distribution of the total distance between the individual disks is effectively improved (claim 10).
In the drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown in one embodiment:
In a simplified, partial longitudinal section, the figure shows a fluid friction clutch 1 with an outer disk set 2 and an inner disk set 3, which interlock.
The inner disk set 3 is axially displaceable via driving toothing 4, but is non-rotatably connected to a hub part 5. The outer set of washers 2 is connected in the same way to a housing jacket 6, which in turn engages in a connecting part 8 with an outer driving profile. Thin-walled, sheet metal end walls 9 and 10 are fastened to the end faces of the housing jacket 6, which approach towards the hub part 5 and form the axial delimitation of the disk sets 2, 3 in the regions 11 and 12. The distance difference between the end walls 9, 10 in the area of the housing shell 6 and in the areas 11 and 12 should be at least 0.1 mm, multiplied by the number of disks.
Between the hub part 5 and the end walls 9, seals 13 and 14 are arranged in axial formations 15 and 16, which seal the interior 17 from the outside. This is completely or largely filled with a working fluid, in particular silicone. Between the discs of the disc sets 2 and 3 spreading elements, not shown, z. B. springs are provided. Furthermore, the disks can have slight undulations, not shown, or have openings in the form of slots and holes.
The end walls 9 and 10 are axially flexible and are spread when the working fluid expands. Since the spreading takes place in the exemplary embodiment in the vicinity of the hub part, it takes place almost exclusively as a result of the thermal expansion and not as a result of the influence of centrifugal forces. The minimum distance between the end walls 9, 10 is limited by the contact of the sheet metal cages 22, 23 of the seals 13, 14 on ring surfaces 24, 25 of the hub part 5.
The hub part 5 is connected via a positive connection 18 to a second connection part 19 which is rotatably held in a housing wall by means of a bearing 21.
The compliance "of the end walls 9, 10 can also be generated by spring or pressure-loaded annular piston which rest against an inner stop. Such an embodiment is more complex but better adjustable and controllable.
