Abstract

A procedure in connection with door or window structures where the aperture (12) for the door, window or equivalent has sharp corners (11) and is e.g. rectangular in shape, and where on the margins of the aperture is provided a packing strip (30) of a type supplied in continuous length. Particular corner pieces (20) rounding the corners (11) of the aperture (12) are installed in the sharp corners (11) of the window aperture (12), whereupon packing strip (30) available in continuous length is applied on the margins of the aperture (12), whereby the corner pieces (20) will cover the holes which would otherwise be left in the corners (11). A corner piece for use in carrying out the procedure is moreover disclosed. The corner piece (20) consists of a plate-like body with a gap (25) on its margin. The gap (25) is defined between marginal flanges (21, 22), which are positoned on both sides of the sheet material wall (10) once the corner piece (20) has been affixed to the corner (11) of the aperture (12) in the sheet material wall (10).

Description

Procedure in connection with window or door structures and corner piece for application in the procedure
The present invention concerns a procedure in connection with door or window structures or other equivalent hatch structures wherein a sheet material wall is made a sharp-angled, preferably rectangular aperture for a door, winwod or equivalent, its margin being provided with packing strip supplied in continuous length.
Furthermore, the invention concerns a corner piece for use in carrying out the procedure.
When making windows or doors, or other equivalent hatches, in asso¬ ciation with sheet material structures, e.g. on land or water con¬ veyances, the usual procedure is to cut out the aperture for the window or equivalent in the sheet, rounding the corners of the aperture. It is furthermore known in prior art to make the apertures with sharp angles to begin with, particularly in those cases in which the borders of the apertures consist of sections, whereupon particular pieces of sheet material forming the rounding are welded on the corners. It is likewise known in the art to let the said aperture remain sharp-angled and to use on the margins of the aperture a special sealing member that has been initially cast to conform to the contour of the aperture's corner.
The drawback encumbering those procedures of prior art in which roundings of the apertures are employed is that it is quite more expensive to make an aperture with round than with sharp corners.
However, apertures with round corners present the advantage that it is possible to use for sealing member on the margins of the aperture, packing strip material which comes in continuous length (by the yard). As known in the art, one has been compelled when using a sharp-cornered aperture to install a particular shaped sealing member, which involves considerably higher manufacturing costs than a seal that is made of continuous length material. The object of the present invention is to avoid the drawbacks mentioned and to provide a procedure, and a means applying the procedure, which allows to avoid the drawbacks mentioned and where¬ in it is possible in a new way to combine the advantages of an aperture with round corners and those of packing strip available in continuous length, without being compelled to make an aperture with rounded corners.
In order to achieve these aims, and others which will become appa- rent later on, the procedure of the invention is mainly characterized in that in the sharp-angled corners of the window aperture made in the sheet material wall are installed particular corner pieces which round the corners, and that thereafter a packing strip coming in continuous length is installed in conjunction with the aperture's margin, whereby the corner pieces cover the holes that would other¬ wise remain in connection with the corners.
The means of the invention, again, is mainly characterized in that the corner piece substantially consists of a plate-like piece having in its marginal portions a slit confined by marginal flanges which are positioned on both sides of the sheet material wall after the corner piece has been affixed in conjunction with the corner of the aperture in the sheet material wall.
As taught by the invention, the aperture that is made in the sheet material wall may be one with sharp angles, such an aperture being simplest to produce. The separate corner piece employed in the invention has small size and favourable manufacturing costs, and it is easy to install in connection with the mounting of the seal. Moreover, profiled packing strip available in continuous length is specifically used for seal.
The invention is described in detail in the following, with reference being made to an embodiment example of the invention presented in the figures of the attached drawing, to the details of which the invention is not confined.
Fig. 1 presents the corner portion of an aperture in a sheet material wall carried out by the procedure of the invention.
Fig. 2 shows the corner piece in top view.
Fig. 3 shows the same as Fig. 2, viewed from the side.
Fig. 4 shows the same as Fig. 3, viewed from the opposite side.
Fig. 5 shows the section along line V-V in Fig. 1.
As depicted in Fig. 1, in the sheet material wall 10 has been made a rectangular aperture 12, its corner being indicated with the reference numeral 11. The aperture 12 is a window aperture, for instance. The aperture 12 is encircled with a packing strip 30, in conjunction with which a window pane (not depicted) will be mounted. The packing strip 30 is of continuous length material, and its cross- sectional shape is partly revealed by Fig. 5. The packing strip 30 has a marginal groove 31, by which the packing strip 30 is affixed in contiguity with the sheet material wall 10 constituting the border of the aperture 12.
In order that no hole might be left in the corner of the sharp- cornered aperture 12, the invention teaches to place a particular corner piece 20 in conjunction with the corner 11. The corner piece 20 is held in place by the packing strip 30, and it requires no particular fixing. The corner piece 20 consists of two steel plates 21 and 22 of substantially trapezoidal shape, bonded together by point welding 26. The plate component 21 is planar, and a depression 27 has been punched in the plate component 22, the planar bottom part 24 of this depression abutting on the plate component 21. The plate components 21 and 22 have the same shape, as seen in the direction of Fig. 2.
Between the plate components 21 and 22 a gap 25 is defined, confined on the inside by the substantially U- or V-shaped bend of the plate component 22. Before the packing strip 30 is installed, the corner pieces 20 are placed in the corner 11, as shown in Figs 1 and 5, so that the edges of the sheet material wall 10 enter the gap 25. The U- or V-shaped bend 23 will position the corner piece properly in conjunction with the corner 11 so that there remains no hole in the corner 11. There is no need to fix the corner piece 20 in its place in any particular way: it is secured in position by the packing strip 30 and by the groove 31 thereof.
It is possible within the scope of the invention to use in con¬ junction with the corner piece 20 a packing strip even of some other kind than the strip provided with a marginal groove 31.
The corner piece may be made in the way described above, of two plate components. The corner piece 20 may equally be made in one or several pieces of plastic, rubber or equivalent.
It is not absolutely necessary to provide the corner piece 20 with a marginal gap 25: its fixing may also be effected by the aid of other types of groove-and-pro ection arrangements, e.g. in that on the margins of the sheet material wall 10, close to the corner 11, are made holes which are entered by pins provided on a particular corner piece 20, which thereby secure the corner piece in its position. Even other variants in the design of the corner piece 20 are possible within the scope of the invention.
It goes without saying that there is one corner piece 20 in each of the four corners 11 of the aperture 12.
In the following are stated the claims, various details of the invention being allowed to vary within the scope of the inventive idea thereby defined.

Claims
1. Procedure in connection with door or window structures or other equivalent hatch structures where in a sheet material wall (10) is made a sharp-cornered (11), preferably rectangular aperture (12) for the door, window or equivalent, its margin being provided with packing strip (30) supplied in continuous length, characterized in that in the sharp-angled corners (11) of the window aperture (12) made in the sheet material wall (10) are installed particular corner pieces (20), which round the corners (11) of the aperture (12), and that thereafter in conjunction with the margin of the aperture (12) is installed a packing strip (30) available in continuous length, whereby the corner pieces (20) cover the holes which would other¬ wise be left in conjunction with the corners (11).
2. Procedure according to claim 1, characterized in that the corner pieces (20) are affixed in conjunction with the corners (11) mainly by the aid of the packing strip (30) .

Procedure according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the corner pieces (20) are disposed, at least in their parts adjacent to the aperture (12), entering a marginal groove (31) of the packing strip (30) , which groove serves to affix the packing strip in conjunction with the aperture (12) in the sheet material wall (10) and with the corner pieces (20) .

Corner piece for use in carrying out a procedure according to claim 1,2 or 3, characterized in that the corner piece (20) consists of a substantially plate-like body having in its marginal parts a gap (25) confined by marginal flanges (21,22), which are positioned on both sides of the sheet material wall (10) when the corner piece (20) has been affixed in conjunction with the corner (11) of the aperture (12) in the sheet material wall (10).
5. Corner piece according to claim 4, chatacterized in that the gap (25) in the margin of the corner piece is confined on the inside by a U- or V-shaped bend (23) or equivalent.
6. Corner piece according to claim 3, characterized in that the corner piece (20) is composed of two plate components (21,22) which have been joined together and between which plate components (21,22) is defined the said marginal gap (25).
7. Corner piece according to claim 6, characterized in that the plate components (21,22) are of substantially trapezoidal shape.
8. Corner piece according to claim 6 or 7, characterized in that one plate component (21) is planar and that the other plate component presents a depression (27), of which the planar bottom part (24) is rendered contiguous with the planar plate component (21) , and that said plate components are affixed to each other at said depression (27) e.g. by point welding.
9. Corner piece according to claim 4,5,6,7 or 8, characterized in that the corner piece has been made of metal, e.g. of two metal plates, of plastic by casting, of rubber or of another suitable material.
