In most cases, known combustion chambers of the kind in question are surrounded by water in a hot water installation, e.g. hot water for a dwelling house. If cracks occur in the wall of the combustion chamber, the result can be that water comes into the combustion chamber and causes operational disturbances and stoppages.

- the illustrated combustion chamber is usually intended to be kept immersed in a container with water which is to be heated. Since the partition wall 28,28a is cast in one piece with the rest of the combustion chamber, the edge portions of the partition wall will be rigidly attached to the walls of the combustion chamber and to the side walls of the side chambers. This signifies, inter alia, that considerable heat stresses can be obtained at the side edges 28c of the wall portions

Abstract
Une chambre de combustion possede une pluralite de chambres laterales (10, 12, 14, 16) distribuees autour de la region centrale de la chambre. Une paroi de separation (28) divise la chambre en une premiere chambre et en une seconde chambre (32 et 34) et se prolonge par des portions de paroi (28a) se projetant partiellement dans les chambres laterales et rattachees a leurs parois laterales (12a, 12b), et laissant une ouverture de passage du flux (30) au bord extreme (28b) de la portion de paroi respective (28a). La paroi de separation (28) est pourvue d'une pluralite de points de concentration de contraintes (36, 38, 40, 42) sur lesquels la cloison (28) se rompt en fissures etroites pendant les quelques premiers demarrages et chauffages jusqu'a atteindre la temperature de fonctionnement normal et les refroidissements se produisant a l'arret, de maniere a ce que la cloison (28) soit exempte de contraintes lors des fonctionnements ulterieurs de l'appareil.
