UNITED srArEs PATENT oEEroE.
Mo'isELANDRY, or SAN EaANcrsoo, CALrroENm,
ELEGTBIC HEATER.
To cZZ -wl0m it may concern: l
Beit known that I, MosE LANDRY, a citizen of Canada, residing in the city and county ing element is a hi h resistance wire or wires adapted to carry e ectricit'y in current form,
in which the heating wire may be 'readil wound when dama ed, and which shail be safe from electrica contact with external bodies,
I attain my objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawing, of which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my electric heater; 'and Fig. 2 a cross-sectional view thereof on enlarged scale, showing inner ar` ranfrement of parts.
Tlhe same numeral of reference refers to thel same, art in both the views.v
' I provi(` e two boards 1, 2 hinged together as at 3, 4. These boards are made of a thinness sufficient to secure what rigidity may be desired while allowing the transmission of the desired amount of heat therethrough.4 The inner surfaces of said boards are covered with asbestos, v57 6, secured thereto in any convenient manner.
On the surface of the asbestos covering,
and arranged so as to lie between the upper and lower covering when the boards are closed on hinges aforesaid, I provide convolutions of high resistance wire, secured in any suitableinanner, as by the pegs shown. The length of this wire and its size are-'determined by the degree of heat required, and the electromotive force of the source of elec` trical ener and as the arrangement -of the boards on Ixinges to ive ready access to said wire facilitates the c anging thereof to meet the requirements of various electromotive forces attention is particularly called to this Specification ofv Reissued. Letters. Patent, Reissued, AprN 21 1908-.
Original No. 873,317, dated December 10, 1907, Serial No. 364,748. Serial No. 414,662.
Application for reissue filed .'l'anuary 20.. i19158A feature of my invention. The endsofv said wire I' lead througli insulated `wires 8,9, to a plug 10, or other suitable connecting; device.-
Catches Il are'arranged to hold the hinged boards closed. When lthe plug 10,- is-attached to'fa source of electrical current of suitable strength wire 7 is heated; the asbestos covering prevents the wooden parts from bein ,5,5
burned; and, through' the asbestos an wooden covering the heat is'fdistributed to. adjacentbodies. Y
The 'hinged boards present al ready means for uncovering the wire 7 for repair and lie- Winding; while they give a'rigidityqand stiffness to the device adaptin it to various urposes for whicha pad wo d'beunsuit' L The screw threaded nut 12Ais of'insulatin'g material. Y
I claim 1. An electric heater comprising twol `boards hinged together', an asbestos covering on .the inner surfaces of said' boards andpa high resistance wire arranged to'4 lie between,
sald coverings when said boards areclosed.:
211 An electric heater comprising two f boards hinged to ether, an asbestos covering on the inner sur aces of said boards, a high resistance wire arranged to lie'between said cverings when said boards are closed, means for securing said boards in their closed position,4 andmeans forsupplying current to said Wire. Y
3. In an electric heater, theI combination with insulating and heating elements of a pairof boards hinged together andbeing provided with suitable clasps for securing them in -closed position, for inclosing the said insulatin and heating elements and allowing them to e readily handled.
'In testimony whereof I have hereuntoA signed my name in the presence oftwo' witnesses.
MoisE LANDRY.
