Description

ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
The herein described variety of plum tree was originated by us in the experimental orchard, located near Modesto, Calif. as a cross between Friar Plum (non-patented) and a selected seedling with the field identification number "59GA511". The pollen parent "59GA511" originated as a selected seedling from a cross between Mariposa Plum (non-patented) and Ebony Plum (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,049).
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION OF THE VARIETY
The new variety of plum tree was asexually propagated by budding, as performed by us in the experimental orchard located near Modesto, Calif. and shows that all characteristic traits come true to the original tree and are transmitted through succeeding asexual propagations.
SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY
Our new and distinct variety of plum tree which is of large size, vigorous, upright in growth and a regular and productive bearer of large size, firm flesh, semi-freestone fruit with very good flavor and eating quality. The tree is further characterized by producing late maturing fruit, ripening 7-10 days after Roysum Plum (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,619) one of the latest commercial varieties.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying photographic illustrations show typical specimens of the foliage and fruit of our new plum variety, with the upper and lower surface of the leaves being illustrated, an exterior and sectional view of the fruit being shown with a stone remaining in place. The photographs were taken shortly after the fruit was picked at maturity (firm ripe) and the colors are as nearly true as reasonably possible in a color photograph of this type.
