Abstract

A new and distinct variety of peach tree which has the following unique combination of desirable features:
1. Early maturity of fruit (ripening 2 to 3 days before Royal April Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 3,411).
2. Heavy production.
3. Extreme firmness of the flesh with excellent shipping characteristics.
4. Good handling and packing characteristics due to round shape.
5. Good eating and storage quality.

Description

ORIGIN OF THE VARIETY
Our new variety of peach tree was originated by us in the experimental orchard located at Modesto, Calif. It was selected from a large group of first generation seedlings originating from a cross between Fayette Peach (Non-patented) and a peach seedling of unknown parentage. We maintained this new selection under close observation, during which time we recognized its distinctive desirable characteristics described above and selected the variety for asexual reproduction and commercialization.
ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION OF THE VARIETY
The present variety of peach tree was asexually reproduced by budding as performed by us in the experimental orchard at Modesto, Calif. and shows that said characteristics come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
SUMMARY OF THE VARIETY
The present variety of peach tree is of large size, vigorous, upright growth and a regular and productive bearer of medium to large size, very firm, yellow flesh, clingstone fruit with good eating quality and the ability to store and ship to long distance markets. The fruit is further characterized in comparison to Royal April Peach (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 3,411) by being more round in shape, having firmer flesh, greater storage and shipping quality and ripening 2 to 3 days earlier.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS
The accompanying photographs show reproductions of typical specimens of the fruit and foliage of our new variety, with illustrations of the upper and lower surface of the foliage, and an exterior and sectional view of the fruit with the stone in place. The photographs were taken shortly after being picked at maturity (firm ripe) and the colors are as nearly true as is reasonably possible in a color representation of this type.
