Abstract

A floribunda rose variety having vigorous, productive plant growth, small and double red flowers having a definite fragrance, few thorns and resistance to mildew.

Description

This present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the floribunda class which has originated by me by crossing an unnamed variety with the variety Caper, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 3,937.
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety combining the colors of both parents in a variety suitable for abundant production of small flowers usable as cut flowers. This objective was substantially achieved along with other desirable improvements as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
1. A vigorous, productive plant, freely branching to produce small red buds.
2. Open flowers are small, double (40 petals), red.
3. Definite fragrance.
4. Few thorns.
5. Resistance to mildew.
Asexual reproduction of this new variety by budding, as performed at Wasco, Calif., shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying illustration shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of this new variety in different stages of development, depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color in terminology in accordance with The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where ordinary dictionary significance of color is indicated.
