Abstract
A new variety of rose plant which remains clear yellow, with reddish-purple styles and fewer side buds under the terminal flowers as compared to its parent Golden Times.
Description
This present invention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the floribunda class which was originated by me by crossing an unnamed variety, with the variety Golden Times, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,044.
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce a new rose variety combining the keeping quality and plant habit of Golden Times with other characteristics of the seed parent. This objective was substantially achieved along with other desirable improvements as evidenced by the following unique combination of characteristics which are outstanding in the new variety and which distinguish it from its parents, as well as from all other varieties of which I am aware:
1. Color is very slightly lighter than Golden Times.
2. Color of this new variety remains clear yellow, while petals of Golden Times often display reddish tints near the edges.
3. Receptacles of the new variety are larger than those of Golden Times.
4. Color of styles is a reddish purple on the new variety compared to pink styles of Golden Times.
5. Plant habit and foliage of the new variety is similar to that of Golden Times, except that fewer side buds are produced under the terminal flowers on the new variety.
Asexual reproduction of this new variety by budding, as performed at Wasco, Calif., shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying illustration shows typical specimens of the vegetative growth and flowers of this new variety in different stages of development, depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new rose cultivar with color in terminology in accordance with The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where ordinary dictionary significance of color is indicated.
