Abstract
A new Verbena plant named ‘VEAZ0013’ particularly distinguished by the creamy light yellow-green flower color, single to semi-double flower habit on a semi-upright plant habit.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Verbena×hybrida.
Varietal denomination: ‘VEAZ0013’.
The present invention comprises a new Verbena, botanically known as Verbena×hybrida, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘VEAZ0013’.
‘VEAZ0013’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar has creamy light yellow-green flower color, single to semi-double flower habit on a semi-upright plant habit.
‘VEAZ0013’ originated from an open-pollinated hybridization made in August 2007, in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands. The female parent was the unpatented, plant designated ‘KO399-2’ with a light rose flower color and a more trailing plant habit than ‘VEAZ0013’. The seed was sown in February 2008.
‘VEAZ0013’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in August 2008 in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘VEAZ0013’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in August 2008, in a greenhouse in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in August 2008, and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘VEAZ0013’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
‘VEAZ0013’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity and day length.
A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar was applied for in Community Plant Variety Office on Jun. 27, 2011 (11/1600) and in Canada on Nov. 1, 2011 (11-7417). ‘VEAZ0013’ has not been made publicly available more than one year prior to the filing of this application.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Verbena as a new and distinct variety
The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘VEAZ0013’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type. The first photographic drawing shows a flowering plant of the new variety, and in the second photo, a close-up of the flowers.
The plant descriptions and measurements were taken in early June, 2012 under natural light. These plants were approximately 12 weeks of age, and growing in 30 cm wide×1 meter long window boxes, outside in full sun, in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
The aforementioned photographs were taken in April 2011. These plants were approximately 12 weeks of age, growing in a greenhouse trial in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands in 10 cm pots.
Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (R.H.S.) 2001.
