Arcmves Servvce Washmgion. DC 20408 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTHONY ISKE, OF LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR MATCH-SAFE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,314, dated May 30, 1876; application tiled May 17, 1876.
[Term of Patent 3% yema] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY ISKE, of the city and county of Lancaster, in the State of Pennsylvania, have originated and designed a Match-Safe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographic illustration of one of its sides, making part of this specification.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made. This consists oi' an ornamental casting in imitation of the Old Independence Bell, with its crack, inscription, and decorated with banners.
A represents a square ornamented base; B, the bell, with a tlag on each side, one having the date of 1776, the other that of 1876, and letters, Proclaim liberty throughout all the land. A The reverse side of the bell has the American shield and the word Centennial diagonally across it. The top Gis hollow to receive matches, which also lifts up and delivers a match when let down.
I am aware that the mere ligure or form of the bell with its crack is no special novelty, but as an ornamental design, combined in the manner and for the purpose, I believe to be new and applicable to the times.
What I claim is- The design for a match-safe, constructed and v ornamented substantially in the manner shown and subscribed.
ANTHONY ISKE.
