Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM H. PAGE, 0F NORW'ICH, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO VILLIAM Il. PAGE 8: C0., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR PRINTING-TYPE.
Specification forming part of Dsigu No. 7,072, dated December 23,1873; application tiled October 27, 1873. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom yit may concern.:
Beit known that I WILLIAM Il. PAGE, of Norwich, in New London county and State ot' Connecticut, have invented a Design for an Alphabet ot' Letters for Printing,` Purposes, of which the following' is a specilieation The nature of my desi gn is fully represented in the accompanying' printed illustration, to which reference is made.
The distinctive character ot' my alphabet is evident in the general appearance and proportions of both the capitals and small letters, for the small lines, although small for thc size ot' the letter, are larger than the common Roman line; and nearly all of the straight parts ofthe letters are curved upon each side, being narrowest at their center, and gradually widen each way to the ceriphs, the curved side lines becoming sharper each Way from the center till they form the inner lines ot' the ceriphs. These ceriphs are made small, and have their ends beveled, converging outward, and all the terminations are also beveled in like manner.
The hook ofthe Land similar parts of other letters are also formed with straight lines, both outside and inside, and a small angle or point is added to thc circular termination of the J and small f, and other silnilar parts.
These peculiar features ot' my alphabet of letters distinguish it from either the Roman or antique.
The accompanying print shows these peenliar features and the proportions of my double extra-condensed alphabet of letters.
W'hat l claim as my invention is- 'lhe design for an alphabet of letters, having substantially the form and proportions herein described.
'ILLIAM ll. PACE.
