Description
08-347. OR 03.918 EX PATENTED MAR 22 1870 717M070. flay/z [0L fiinitmi some WALLACE T. MUNGER, OF NEW BRITAIN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO I. AND F. CORBIN, OF SAME PLACE.
Design No. 3,918, dated lifmch 22, 1870.
DESIGN FOR KEY FOR LOCKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part if the same.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALLACE 'l. Mnsenn, of New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented or produced a. new and original Design for a Key for Looks; and the following is declared to be a full description thereof.
The drawing represents the design of the said key; in
Figure 1, the same is shown fiatwise; and, in
Figure 2, the edge of the key, bow, and shank are represented.
The barrel or stock of the key is eylindricahas at a, and the bits 7) are adapted to the lock with which the key is to be used. These parts do not form my design, they being of ordinary character.
The stem or shank c of the key is made of a wedgeform, being thickest at its union with the ornamental collar 0, that forms a stop in inserting the key into the look.
The how f of the key is of the ornamental shape represented, the same being flattened and forming an extension of the wedge-shaped shank.
The angles or edges of the shank and how are slightly rounded.
This design of the shape and configuration of the key insures strength, with but little weight, and the key does not present sharp edges, angles, or collars to wear the pocket.
I.claim as my invention The design of the wedge-shaped key-shank, extending from the bow to the stock or barrel, substantially as set forth.
Dated this 1st day of February A. D. 1870.
W. T. MUNGER.
