* 1 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN MAXWELL, OF ONEIDA, NElV YORK.
DESIGN FOR A CASKET-BODY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,903, dated May 6, 1902.
Application filed April 11, 1902. Serial N0. 102,482. Term of patent '7 years.
To a whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MAXWELL, of
Oneida, in the county of Madison, in the State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Casket Body and Cover, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which I have shown an isometric elevation thereof in which one side, the end, and the top or cover of the casket are seen.
As shown in the drawing, the leading or material feature of my design consists in a casket body and cover ornamented substantially as shown in the drawing and comprises the marginal scrolls a, b, c, and d, the scrolls a rising from the base of the casket, where they terminate in brackets, between which the handle is secured, and the scrolls b rising from the base of the respective corners of the casket-body. The scrolls 0 present the appearance of a partially-unfolded plate resting upon the upper ends of the scrolls a, and d is the undulating surface of the cover mounting and resting upon the scrolls c. The edge of this cover is ornamented, as shown at c, the whole forming a unique unitary article of manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The design for a casket-body substantially as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of April, 1902.
JOHN MAXWELL.
