UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK P. MAYNARD, OF OLAREMUNT, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
DESIGN FOR A SHOE-SOLE.
srncxmcanon forming part of Design Na 32,766, dated Ma 29, 1900.
Application flied May 1, 1900. SilliillN0-15j140| Term of patent 7 years- To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK P. MAYNARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at (31a remont, in the county of Sullivan and State of New Hampshire, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Shoe=Soles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a shoe-sole, showing my new design; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional View.
As shown in the drawings, my design consists in the shape or configuration applied to the bottom of a shoe-sole, of a rib A, extending along the outer edge of the sole, which is of usual shape, and having the heel portion A raised above the level of the sole portion. Within the rib A and also following the contour of the sole is a groove B. \Vithin the groove and forming its inner wall is a rib 0, having the raised heel portion 0' and the depressed instep portion (J Extending across the sole are the transverse ribs D, E, and F, of the form shown, the rib E separating the sole portion proper from the instep portion, the rib F separating the heel portion from the instep portion, and the rib D dividing the sole portion proper into two parts. At the toe portion the part lying between the rib D and the rib O is provided with a curved rib D, from which the radiating ribs D extend to the rib C. The portion between the ribs D and E is provided with the series of projections shown, which are formed by the series of intersecting grooves G. The raised heel portion is also provided with similar projections formed by the series of grooves II.
My design is particularly intended to be applied to rubber soles for shoes, the ribs and projections shown being readily formed in the rubber before vulcanization; but it is evident that the design may be applied to soles of other material.
I regard as the essential features of my design the parallel ribs which follow the contour of the sole and form between them the groove, as shown, and the ornamental surface formed within the inner rib by the ribs and projections shown.
Having thus described my design, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is==- The design for a shoe-sole, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK P. MAYNARD.
