UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MASON D. PRATT, OF STEELTON, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE PENN- SYLVANIA STEEL COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A GUARD-RAiL FOR STREET-RAILWAY CURVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,792, dated may 16, 1899.
Application filed April 8, 1899. Serial No. 712.030 Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MASON D. PRATT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Steelton, in the countyof Dauphin and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Guard -Rail for Street-Railway Curves, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, which represent in Figure 1 a perspective view, and in Fig. 2 a transverse section, of a rail showing my design, A indicates the head of the rail, which is for the most part located to the left of the plane of the web B, as illustrated. The gage-line C is situated to the right of the plane of the web. There is a groove D between the head A and the guard E. The top surface F of the head is inclined downward slightly toward the groove. The top of the guard is somewhat higher than the head A. The body of the guard is of heavy construction and connected to the web and head by a heavy neck G. The head is connected to the web and guard by a heavy neck H. The under surface I of the head is considerably higher than the under surface J of the neck G and guard E. The base K extends symmetrically upon both sides of the web and is of the usual design. The meeting edges of the several faces or surfaces are rounded, as shown, excepting the angles at the lower corners of the base.
The leading or material features of my design are comprised in the shape or configuration of the head, guard, groove D, necks G and H, and their relation to the web B, the base, as heretofore stated, being of common design.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
The design for a guard-rail for street-railway curves, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MASON D. PRATT.
