UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY N. CRAWFORD, OF TOPISAWV, MISSISSIPPI.
DESIGN FOR A TRACE-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,178, dated February 14, 1899.
Application filed January 23, 1899. Serial ITO-703,183. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whmn it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY N. CRAWFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Topisaw, in the county of Pike and State of Mississippi, have invented and produced a new and useful Design for a Safety Trace-Hook, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to a design fora trace-hook, the essential feature thereof being the peculiar shape and construction of the end to which the trace is to be hooked.
In the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown a side elevation of a hook constructed in accordance with my design, and, referring thereto, A represents the body or shank of the hook, having an ovalshaped ring 13 at one end. The opposite end is curved or bent back upon itself, as shown at O, the extreme end projecting inwardly toward the bowed portion 0, as most clearly shown at D, said inwardly-projecting prong or guard D being straight along one edge, as shown at D, and inclined upon the opposite edge, as shown at D A guard-prong E ex tends from the shank or body portion A toward the bow portion 0 and also toward the guard-pron g D, the adjacent edge E being essentially parallel with the edge D, while the end E is undercut, thereby providing an essentially bow-shaped opening, having a narrow passageway leading thereto.
By means of a trace-hook constructed in accordance with my design the trace-chain can be quickly and easily attached to a whiflletree, and by means of the guards D and E it will be impossible for said chain to become disengaged.
Having thus fully described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The design for a trace-hook, substantially as shown and described.
