'LO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONOERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN I. CONNOLLY, of Ravenswood, in the county of Queens, and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original Design for a Cuspatior; and I do hereby declare the following to be a correct description ofthe same, reference being hadto the annexed drawing, making part of this speciiication, wherein I have shown an elevation of saifl euspador.
`The article to which my said design relates has heretofore been malle in the shape of a bowl or urn, and used for the reception of scraps of paper, burnt matches, and other refuse matter in parlors, sitting-rooms, and other parts of houses, but the shape has been such that it was easily upset. The aforesaid article has been known in the trade as a enspador.
My improvement consists in the design oi' the shape or ornamental configuration ofthe said euspador; and I here remark that my said article may be used as a spittoon.
The general shape ol' my cuspador is round and hollow. It is formed with a broad base, a, above which is a cove, b, and a compound curve or ogce, e, to the neck-band d, above which, the flaring mouth or Bange e is formed. The color or painted surface ornamentation forms no part of my design, neither does the material of which said euspaclor is made.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe design of the shape and configuration of the saiil euspador, substantially as represent-ed in the drawing.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my signature, this third (lay of February, 1868.
JOHN P. OONNOLLY.
