AU 291 EX DESIGN.
E. P. CALDWELL.
GLOBE OR SHADE.
Patented Feb. 16,1897
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD F. CALDWELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE IlItENIX GLASS COMPANY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A GLOBE OR SHADE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,642, dated February 16, 1897.
Application tiled January 13, 1897. Serial No. 619,125. Term of patent '7 years To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD F. CALDWELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of 5 New York, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Globe or Shade; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, elea r, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which [0 it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to designs for gas, eleetric light, and lamp globes and shades; and it consists in the shape and configuration as hereinafter described, and as shown in the 15 accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a plan view, and Figs. 2 and 3 are side views, of a globe embodying the novel design.
The shape of the body A of the globe is in 20 vertical section approximately a spherical or spheroidal zone, the upper edge being in the plane of the widest portion of the sphere, from which the wall of the globe curves downwardly and inwardly to the narrowed termi- 2 5 nal of the spherical portion indicated by the dotted line a: as. From this point the neck portion is produced on reversed curved lines,
which first converge and then flare, terminating at the lower edge of the neck. The neck portion is about one-fourth the full height of the globe and the parts so proportioned as to render the design harmonious and pleasing. The body of the globe is divided into a series of flutes a, separated by rounded or bellied panels I), and both may be appropriately etched. The upper edge of the globe is sealloped, each panel and fiute being rounded, as shown. The highest portions of the flutes are slightly lower than the highest portions of the panels, the whole being the resultant of the bisection of the globe at its upper edge by the revolution of a line describing a conical surface, the axis of which is coincident with the axis of the globe.
\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for globes or shades, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
