0. W- NASON. V 'GRATB BA No. 26,525. I Patented Jan. 12, 1897.
WITNESSES: MIL Emma v ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARLETON IV. NASON, OF NE YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A GRATE-BAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,525, dated January 12, 1897.
A li ti fil d November 5, 1896. Serial No. 611,182. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARLETON W. NA$ON, a citizen of the United States, doing business in the city and county of New York, in the 5 State of New York, have invented or produced a new and originalDesign fora Grate-Bar, of which the following is a specification.
The accompanying drawing forms a part of this specification and is a perspective view 0 of my grate section or bar.
The leading feature of my design is What I term an open center, air being allowed to rise freely through liberal apertures along the center line of the grate-bar. Further 5 features are a trunnion at each end, two sufficiently broad and deep connections along two lines each at a little distance from the center line, and a series of fingers extending transversely to those lines across the central 0 space and out beyond the connections on each side. 1
Referring to the drawing, A and B are the substantial portions of the grate-bar, which I have referred to as connections, each side 5 of the center line. C and O are trunnions cast on the ends, respectively, of the central line, and D are the crossbars or fingers arranged parallel and equidistant, standing transversely to the center line. The central spaces d cl, &c., between the connections A B allow air to rise between the bars D D along such line and form a conspicuous feature of my design. The spaces d d between the free ends of the bars D D, are in line each with a corresponding space d.
The ends of the bars D are in a straight line on one side of my grate-section, the further edge, as shown, and in a curved line on the other side, the nearest side, as shown. These features may be Varied.
E is an arm extending down from one of the cross-bars D. It is of a taper form, as clearly shown.
What I claim is- The design for a grate-bar substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the invention above set forth I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CARLETON W. NASON.
