UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. HRILL, (llv PllIlADlillrPlllA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR AN AXLE-BOX FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,966, dated December 12, 1893.
Application filed November-14, 1893. Serial Nn. 490.962 Term of patent 14 years.
To all wil/0711, t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. BRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and useful Design foran Axle-,Box Frame, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of the saine.
My invention has relation to the design for an axle box frame for car trucks, the essential feature of which is its configuration.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective or isometric elevation of the entire frame, and Fig. 2 a side elevation thereof.
The frame is disposed substantially in rectangular forrn and comprises the cross bars l, 2, short side sections 3, 4 all continuous, their union as at 5 being rounded, the side sections being substantially at right angles to the cross sections. Between the short side sections 3, 4, and above and below the plane of the web of the same, are the central sections G which comprise upper and lower parallel bars 7, 8, the bar 7 being longer than the bar 8 and havin g depending therefrom a. cheek plate or axle box bearing surface 9 which extends above and below the web of the short side sections 3, 4, the defining lines of which merge into those of the check plate. The lower bar 8 has an upwardly extending cheek plate or axle box bearing surface 10, the lines of which merge into those of the upper bar 7, the inner edges of both the cheek plates being parallel, as are the bars 7, S. The cheek plates il are slightly Wedge shaped; andlat the point of union of the short side sections 3, 4 with the cheek plates the metal is swelled as at 11. The corners of the union of the upper bars 7 with the cheek plates 9 are rounded as at 12, as are the corners of the union of the lower bar S with the cheek plates 10, as at 13. Between the upper and lower bars 7, 8, and the cheek plates 9, 10, are rectangular openings 14, 15. The Whole frame presents a continn ous and unbroken configuration, which is one of the essential features of this design.
I claim- The design for an axle box frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, this 22d day of September.1 1893.
JOHN A. BRILL.
