Description

DESIGN 0. H. SFEFPBAOH.
TEXTILE FABRIC.
Patented A11. 15
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES H. SCHOPBACH, OF AURORA, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR TEXTILE FABRIC.
SPECIFICATION fO 'mg part of Design No. 22,693, dated August 15,1893.
Application filed May 20, 1893- Sorial No. 474.984. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. SCHCPBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Fibrous and Textile Goods and Woven Fabrics-as, for instance, flags, banners, and badges-of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, showing the said design.
My novel design consists mainly of a group of three persons, one intended to represent Columbus the discoverer of America, another Columbia, and the other or third figure indicating Liberty or the Genius of America. Columbus and Columbia are facing each other as the former has stepped upon the shore, and each has the right hand extended, as the latter offers a welcome. Each of these two figures holds in the left hand the staff of a national flag, Columbias being the flag of the United States, with its stars and stripes and that of Columbus being the representation of the Royal Standard flag of Spain with some of its bearings shown thereon. Above these two figures, which occupy the fore-ground and seated on a rock a little in theback-ground, the figure of Liberty or the Genius of America is seen looking down upon them her look being directed toward the figure of Columbus, and with both arms and both hands extended, one toward Columbus and one toward Columbia, as if in the act of pronouncing a blessing upon them both; she is suitably draped and with a loose flowing mantle over her left arm and shoulder. Her hair is shown as loose and falling over the right shoulder; a pointed tiara or crown is seen on her head, and at her left side rests a shield having on it, stars in its upper part, and stripes in its lower part, and on this shield rests a sword. At the right hand side of the Whole, water is represented indicating the ocean, and a small vessel is also shown; and a small boat is seen at the shore. Space is left both at the top and bottom of the design, intended as a name space in which may be put words or figures if desired.
What I claim is The design for fibrous and textile goods and woven fabrics, substantially as shown and described.
CHARLES H. SCIIOPBACII.
