DESIGN.
G. DEMARTIAL.

Patented Nov. 11, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAVE DEMARTIAL, OF LIMOGES, FRANCE.
DESIGN FOR DISHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 20,291, dated November 11, 1890, Application filed October 14, 1890. Serial No. 368,097. Term of patent 7 years. Registered in France September 22, 1890, No. 614..
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, GUSTAVE DEMARTIAL, a citizen of France, residing at Limoges, in the Department of Haute-Vienne, Republic of France, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Dishes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side view of a soup-tureen or covered dish. Fig. 2 is a face view of the cover. Fig. 3 is a face view of a platter or deep dish. Fig. 4 is a face view of a plate, these four views being deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The leading feature of my design consists of a dish in the style of Louis XV ornamented with irregular shell and scroll work having algae or sea-plants in relief.
Fig. 1 represents aface view of a soup-tureen or covered dish. The cover rests on a rim within raised and scalloped edges. The main body of the dish A AAis made up of irregular shell and scroll work, terminating at the upper edge in uneven scallops B B B. On the right side of the dish, from a prominent shell or scroll 0, there spreads a branch of algae or sea-plant. The handles D D at each end of the dish are formed by joining two scrolls with scroll-work. At the base, where the handles join the body of the dish E E, there are ornamental scroll designs.
Fig. 2 represents the cover. The handleF is formed by two scrolls turned so as to meet in the center. The body of the coveris made up of irregular shell and scroll work with algae spreading from the prominent scrolls or shells G G.
Fig. 3 represents the platter or deep dish. The handles are of the same design as the soup-tureen, excepting that they are in relief. From the four prominent shells or scrolls H H H H spread the algae toward each other and over a part of the shell-work. The sides and ends of the dish are ornamented with shell and scroll work, terminating at the outer edge in uneven scallops in conformity to the design of the soup-tureen, as above given.
Fig. 4 represents a face view of a plate. The basin of the plate J is perfectly plain. 50 From three places in the rimK KKbranches of algae spread out from prominent scrolls. The rim is ornamented, as the other dishes, with irregular shell and scroll work, terminating in an uneven scalloped outer edge.
NVhat I claim is- The design for dishes ornamented with irregular shell and scroll work, with algae or sea-plant spreading from the most prominentshells or scrolls, after the style of Louis XV, 60 substantially as shown and described.
