SBNHOHV 'WNOLLVN EHL 1V GBOOGOEdEB UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LEWIS J. ATWOOD AND FREDERICK Vt. TOBEY, OF WVATERBURY, CONNECTI- CUT, ASSIGNORS TO THE PLUME dz ATVVOOD MANUFACTURING COMPANY,
OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A LAMP-BURNER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,307, dated September 10, 1889.
Application filed July 6, 1889. Serial No. 316,706. Term of patent 7 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LEWIS J. ATWOOD and FREDERICK W. TOBEY, of \Vatcrbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecti- 5 out, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of the lamp-burner, and Fig. 2 is a vertical 10 section of the same.
Our design is especially adapted to large lamp-burners, and is for removing the clumsy and objectionable appearance heretofore usual in this class of burners.
I 5 The leading feature in this design is an overhanging horizontal ledge projecting beyond a perforated cylinder, so that the lower part of the burner resembles a series of inverted steps, and has a neat artistic appear- 20 ance without lessening the size of the overhanging portion on which the chimney rests.
The deflector a is dome-shaped, as usual, and the circular range of chimney-springs b are of ornamental open-work also, as usual;
:5 but the perforated air-distributor c is cylindrical and of considerably smaller diameter than the overhanging annular ledge d, and at the same time it is larger than the screwhasc, so as to produce a marked contrast in the appearance resulting from the relative sizes of the parts 1) and c and the screw-base, and at the lower edge of the part c is a projecting rib e, which enhances the ornamental appearance of the burner.
What we claim is- The design for a lamp-burner herein shown and described, the same comprising the perforated cylinder 0, the annular projecting ledge d at the top of the cylinder and below the annular range of ornamental open-work b, the cylinder 0 being larger than the screwbase, the whole burner having the appearance of inverted annular steps, substantially as shown.
Signed by us this 29th day of June, 1889.
