To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM WHARTON, Jr., and EDWARD SAMUEL, both citizens of the United States, and residents of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and original Design for a Railway-Rail, of which the following is: a specification.
Our design for a railway-rail is fully shown in the accompanying drawing, which represents a transverse section of the rail.
The rail has a depending web,W, at the top of which, on one side, is a laterally-projecting head, P, both the upper and under faces of which extend straightto the outer edge. From the opposite side of the web projects aneck, N, at the outer end of which is a vertical flange, F, which projects both above and below the neck. The upper projecting portion forms a rib, a, between which and the head P of the rail is a deep groove, b, and the lower projectrail having in transverse section the outline 25 illustrated, comprising the depending web W,
laterally-projecting heed P, with straight upper and under faces, and laterally-projecting neck N,terminating in a flange, F, withfnpper projecting rib, a, and lower projecting lug, d, 50
all substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
