Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
TILGHMAN F. FEEDEEIoK, OF CATASAUQUA, rm, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRY- DEN FORGED HoRsE-sHoE woRKs, (LIMITEDJ oF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A HORSESHOE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,914. dated September 28, 1886.
A pplicalinn filed May 3, 1886. Serial No. 2(1,00-l. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, TILGHMAN F. FRED- ERICK, aoitizenof the United States, residing at Catasauqua, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new, useful, and original Design for a Horseshoe, of which the following is a specification.
Asheet of drawings accompanies this specification as part thereof.
Figure 1 of these drawings isa face view of my newly-designed horseshoe. Fig. 2 is 2. lateral edge view. Fig. 3- is a front edge view. Fig. 4 represents a crosssection on the line 4 4, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 represents a cross-section on the line 5 5, Fig. 1; and Figs. 1 1 represent. by face views, an alternative shape of the extremities of the prongs beyond the lines as a: z z, Fig. 1, these several views being deemed necessary to fully show my new, useful, and original shape or configuration hereinafter claimed.
The general shape of the horseshoe in plan, as seen in Fig. 1, is that which is ordinary, except that the web is relatively narrow, and the nail-holes n, the creases c in which said holes are formed, and the toe-clip 1 form no part of my said shape or configuration. The latter, constituting my design, comprises the form of the toe-call: A, sole B, and inner and outer bevels, C C D D. lhe toe-call; A is in the form of an oblong projection extending straight across the toe end of the shoe at right angles to its major axis, and is relatively broad and low, its width from front to rear being about twice its depth from the sole B B. Its ends are rectangular as regards their rear cor- 11ers.
The sole B B is divided into two parts by thetoe-oalk, and, extending rearwardly therefrom, has the general outline of the prongs of the shoe, as viewed in Fig. 1, except where it is indented by said creases c 0. Its more important feature, however, is its flatncss, which it preserves from said calks to the extremities of the prongs of the shoe and from bevel to bevel transversely, except where it is indented by said creases. Said bevels C O extend rearward from the calk along the inner edges of both prongs, and preferably around rounded extremities of the prongs, where they merge into said bevels D D, which give shape to the outer lateral edges of the shoe; but said extremities may be square instead, as represented by Figs. 1 and 1, without affecting the main features of my design.
Having thus described my said design, I claim and desire to patent under this specification 1. The within-described design for a horseshoe, consistiug of a toe-calk in the form of a low oblong projection extending straight across the toe end of the shoe at right angles to its major axis and tangential to its inner curve, a rearwardly-extending fiat sole preservinga flat surface from said calk to the rear extremities of the prongs, and bevels extend- .ing rearward from said calk along the inner edges of both prongs, substantially as shown.
2. The within-described design for a horseshoe, consisting of a toe-calla in the form of a low oblong projection extending straight across the toe end of the shoe at right angles to its major axis, a flat sole extending from the toe-ealk to the rear extremities of the prongs, bevels extending rearward from said call; along the inner edges of both prongs and around their extremities, and outer edge bevels into which the latter merge, substantially as shown.
T. F. FREDERICK.
