DESIGN FOR DISHES AND TABLE-WARE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,613. dated April 13, 1886.
.\It]llltlllll ll tiled Janllitr l3, lr rti. Serial No. left M3.
To (17/ whom if may concern lle it known that. we, llonun llucnmx.
a citizen of the United States. residing at liast Liverpool, (7olumbiana county, State of Ohio.
tery or so-called China, Porcelain, Earthen IO ware, and Glass, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof. Figures 1, 2, 3, 4, and .3 are side elevations of handled vessels, being respectively a tea pot, sugar-bowl, cream-jug, single and double sauec-boat. Figs. (5 and 7 are horizontal sections, respectively on the line a :v and y Fig. 1. Figs. 8 and 9 are elevations in longitudinal and transverse section through the :0 center of the knobs. Fig. 10 is a plan view of a salad-dish. Fig. 11 is a view in perspect-ive of a comport. perspective of a covered dish.
our new design.
\Vhat are believed to be the novel features of our design are as follows, to wit:
First. The plan of the vessels and dishes, the same having two or more opposite sides that near the corners are on substantially parallel lines, as at (1, and between these sub stantially parallel parts the sides swell or curve outward, as at (1. (Shown more clearly in Figs. 6, l0, and 13.) The corners are usually rounded more or less, as it is hardly practicable or desirable to have them sharp and square.
Second. A series of tlutings, 1), arranged around the lower part of the vessels. lIerctofore when tlutings have been employed on such ware they were respectively of small radius, and the are was nearly or quite a semi circle, so that the depressions extended deep 45 into the ware, that on this account had to be made thick and objectionably heavy. and deep depressions were hard to clean. ()ur llulings are drawn, res wctively, in a larger radius. but have an arc of but few degrees, or

ol'slight; radial depth, the llutings, therefore, being comparat ively broad and thin. and stand out from the body of the ware, tsee Fig. T, 1 and have but slight depressions.
Third. The handlesc are octagonal in cross section, as shown more clearly in Fig. (3.
Fourth. The lower arms, 0, of the handles join the upright part on an acute angle, said lower arms joining the ware on a line. with the adjacent part that slopes downward and outward, as at 0.
Fifth. The ornaments of the handles, bows, and knobs have a series of spherical or spheroidal, ovoidal, or ellipsoidal sections, c, arranged circuinferentially around the handles, knobs, or bows, longitudinal and transverse sections of a knob being shown, respectively, in Figs. 8 and 9.
Sixth. The arrangement of feet I. These feet are in the form of a depending rib that extends across the ends on two sides of the ware, conforming in shape to the body of the ware, and terminate at the lines where the swells of the sides join the aforesaid parallel lines.
\Vhat we claim is 1. A design for dishes and table-ware herein shown and described, the same consisting of a body having opposite sides that in horizontal section and near the corners are substantially parallel with each other, the portions of said body between such substantially parallel parts swelling and curving outward. and a series of tluting around the lower portion of the body. substantially as setforth.
2. A design for dishes and table-ware, cons sting, essentially, of a body the superior portion of which slopes downward and outward, and a handle having an upright member and a lower arm, the latter being in a continuous line with said sloping portion of the body and joining the upright member at an acute angle. substantially as shown.
3. A, design for dishes and table-ware, consisting of a body a portion of which slopes such l downward and outward, and a handle octago mil in cross-section. having a lower arm in line with said sloping portion of the body, the said lower arm joining the upright part of the (aw/u handle at an ncnlo miglfi, Snhstantinlly as wt In testimony whm'ooi'wo i ign thi SpeOiflm lmth. i lion in tln presence of two wit nmsi-s. this 371 h 4.
