To all whom, it muy concern:
Be it. known that I, (i1-:ORGE W. Wiou'r, of
Xew York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have produced a new Design for Printing upon Fabrics, particularly Woolen; and I do hereby deelxre the following to be a full, clear, and exact dt scription of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing, making a part of this eciiiezllion, marked A, and being a correct impression taken from the rollers as cngsfved.
The design as produced by me consists of stripes or columns of small figures combined together, the technical name of which is the barley-corn figure. Iarrangetliemas seen in the drawing by placing a wide stripe then :1 narrow white stripe. This is followed by a narrow stripe of the barleylcorn werk, and next a stripe of white and a like stripe tothe last ofthe burlcycorn work. nexta vhile' stripe extending to the. wide stripe ofthe next figure of" .stripes or columns, und these are repeated side by Aide or parallel to cach other tothe entire lfugth or width of the piece of goods. This may be used as a groundwork or a cross-over work at pleasure, and with any and all other figures in combination, in printing sali: *is er other fabrics, both running in what is termed Ustripes. or runningleugthwise of the c.0th, and in cross-over, or what may he understood as width wise ofthecloth or other material, iu any and all colors.
VVlat I claim isrlhe peculiar combination of the barleycern work figures, or others substantially the same, into this arrangement of stripes, to be printed upon fabrics separately or iu combination with other figures, whether it is arranged to run lengthwise or breadthwise 0l" the cloth.
