and use the same.
This invention relates to embroidering machines, and particularly to what are lframe divides said frame into top and hotknown as Swiss embroidering machines, and still more particularly to machlnes of this class such as are described and clalmed in U. S. Letters Patent #498,925, granted.
June 6, 1893; and #611,097, granted September 20, 1898, and the object of this invention is to provide a machine of this class designed particularly for use in embroidering knitted stockings, neck ties, gloves and various other articles, and in which the construction and arrangement is such that articles of the class specified may be embroidered without cutting the threads of the fabric and without puckering or wrinkling the same; a further object being to provide an improved machine of the class specified which employs a separate and distinct frame on which each stocking, neck tie, glove or other article, or the sheet of fabric from which said articles is made is first stretched and embroidered after which the article is formed from said sheet.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my invention are desig nated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a side view of the main operative parts of a machine of the class specified involving my invention, part of the construction being in section:Fig. 2 a side .view of an improved frame construction which I employ :-Fig. 3 a section of the line 3-3 of Fig. 2:Fig. 4: a view similar to Fig. 2 but showing one of the individual frames only and showing a sheet of material applied thereto, and :-Fig. 5 a cross section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
In the drawing forming part of this specification I have shown a machine of the class specified, the general form, construction and operation of which is the same as that shown in Patent #611,097, hereinbefore referred to. This machine involves a frame consisting of two parallel upright members 1, between which is mounted a vertically and laterally movable main frame A having reclining devices or catches B, and in which is mounted a supplemental frame 2 consist ing of parallel end members 3, parallel top .and bottom members tand a central memher 5 parallel with the top and bottom members l, this construction of this frame being clearly shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.
The central member 5 of the supplemental tom spaces 6 and 7 in which are detachably placed individual fabric frames 8 which are oblong and rectangular in form and which comprise parallel side members 9 and parallel end members 10, the end members being set inwardly of the ends of the side-members so that said side members form projecting end supports 11 which are adapted to fit in recesses 12 in the parallel parts land 5 of the supplemental frame, and the inner ends of the individual frames 8 are held in connection with the central frame member 5 by a bar 13 secured to said frame member, and said frames 8 are held in connection with the parallel side members 1 of the supplemental frame 2 by a bar 14 one end of which is pivoted at the end 15 and the other end detachably connected with the supplemental frame at 16.
The side members 9 of the individual frames 8 and the end members 10 of said frames are provided on their outer sides with short outwardly directed pins 17, and these pins 17 are all in the same plane, and in practice individual fabric sheets 18 are stretched on each of the frames 8, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 5, and secured thereto by the pins 17, and it will be understood, that a stocking may be formed from each of the sheets 18 after said sheet has been embroidered, and any other article such as, four-in-hand ties, gloves or other articles may be formed from other sheets; but my invention is not limited to the particular character of the goods, nor to the particular character of the article to be formedtherefrom, and handkerchiefs and other article of apparel for personal use, or the material from which said article or articles are formed may be embroidered.
It will be understood that the supplemental frame 2 may be of any desired dimensions,
frames 8 may be employed, it being understood that the individual frames 8 must be exactly spaced and arranged in proper order to correspond with the position and arrangement of needle supporting bars of the machine and the needle clippers placed thereon.
At each side of the machine rearwardly of the main upright members 1 and at the opposite ends of the machine are mounted the usual carriages 19 movable on tracks 20 and movable toward and from the central portion of the machine, and these carriages are provided with the usual upwardly, downwardly and inwardly directed supports 21 which carry rails 22 on which are mounted clipper blocks or stops 23 provided with needle clippers 24: by which the needles 25 are held and with which the embroidering threads 26 are connected, all of these features being the same in construction and operation as in Patent #611,097, hereinbefore referred to with the exception that only two sets of rows of clippers and needles are employed, one above and one below the carriages 19, these sets of clippers and needles being arranged to correspond with the top and bottom sets of individual frames 8 in the supplemental frame 2.
It will also be understood that the supplemental frame 2 is made vertically movable by means of the usual pantograph device 27 which is connected therewith by means of a rod or rods 28, and the horizontal movement of said main frame is also provided for in the same manner, but other details of the machine are not shown nor described for the reason that they form no part of my invention which is limited to the main frame A, the supplemental frame 2 and the individual frames 8 mounted thereon. My invention however, is not limited to the use of the main frame A, and the supplemental frame 2 may be substituted for said main frame if desired, the reason for using the main frame A being to adapt my improvement to machines of the class described as now construct-ed, which machines employ the said main frame A.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In an embroidering machine, an oblong 2. In an embroidering machine, a main frame, a supplemental frame detachably mounted therein and the sides of which are provided with recesses in one side face thereof, and individual fabric frames composed of parallel side and parallel end'members, the side members being provided with end projections adapted to enter said recesses and said side and end members being provided with projecting pins, and means for securing the individual fabric frames to the supplemental frame.
3. In an embroidering machine, amain frame, a supplemental frame detachably mounted thereon and divided centrally and longitudinally into separate parts, and a plurality of individual fabric frames composed of parallel side and parallel end members, the side and end members being provided with projecting pins, said individual fabric frames being detachably mounted in and transversely of the separate parts of the supplemental frame.
4. In an embroidering machine, a detachable supplemental frame divided centrally and longitudinally into separate parts, and a plurality of individual fabric frames composed of parallel side and parallel end members, the side members being provided with end projections and the side and end members being provided with projecting pins, said fabric frames being detachably mounted in and transversely of the parts of the supplemental frame.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 23rd day of April, 1912.
