Invenior KQ/MMV UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARENCE S. NATHAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
' DESIGN FOR A CALENDAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 14,819, dated February 26, 1884.
Application filed November 28, 1883.
T0 on whom it may concern Be it known that I, OLARENcE S. NATHAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city ofiNew York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced anew and original Design for Calendars, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention is a design for calendars; and it consists, essentially, in a figure represented with pencil or brush as in the act of painting a picture, which picture forms the second main feature of said design. Besides these, there are other accessory featuressuch as a background, a scroll, border, &c.which may be varied without essentially changing my design. I arrange said design substantially as shown in the accompanying drawing, in which there is a background representing a waterscene, with pond-lilies, &c., above which and on one side are butterflies. Standing centrally in front of this is the representation of a picture showing cherubs, flowers, &c., and having an opening therein. Below this picture is a scroll, in the center of which appears an opening. On the lower right-hand corner Term of patent 3?; years.
is a bracket filled in with arabesques, and supporting a female figure (which may represent the muse of art) with a palette in one hand, while the other hand, containing a brush or pencil, is extended over or toward the picture, as if about to use the pencil on it, and extending across the front of the central picture is a scythe, which may have an oblong opening therein. Surrounding the whole may be any suitable border.
\Vhat I claim as new is" The design for a calendar herein shown and described, consisting of a representation of a picture having delineated thereon cherubs, flowers, &c., and having an opening therein. a female figurc, with a palette in one hand and brush or pencil in the other, and standing on a bracket, a scroll in the center of which is an oblong opening, and a scythe also having an oblong opening therein, substantially as set forth.
I In testimony whereof I aflix mysignatnre in presence of two witnesses.
CLARENCE S. NATHAN.
