Description

nil- 661 DESIGN.
R. N. OAKMAN, Jr. Table-Forks.
#911,324. Patented Aug. 5,1879,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RICHARD N. (JAKMAN, JR, OF TURNERS FALLS, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR TABLE-FORKS.
Specification forming part of Design No. I 1,324, dated August 5, 1879; application filed June 20, 1579. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD N. OAKMAN, Jr., of Turners Falls, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have originated and designed a new Pattern of Table- Forks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the two figures of the drawings, of which Figure l is a front view, and Fig. 2 a back view. Figs. 3, 4, and 5, transverse sections.
Refcrrin g to drawings, A are the fork-pron gs, of the usual form; B, the shoulder; O, the shank, and D the handle.
The shank C is thick and rounding toward the front, running into a flattened surface about midway between the shoulder B and handle at D.
On the face of the fork are heads a, which start on either side with volutes b, and, following the edge of the shoulder and shank, form, together with the curved surface of said shank, a groove, 0. The said head appears again as such when it reaches the fiat surface of the handle, and, continuing around, forms the outline of the flat point cl. A second head, a, follows within that of a, and extending to ward the pointed end of the handle, is formed into a semicircle.
A triangular space ornamented with curved rays is also outlined with a head like that of a, and formed at the end of the fork'handle. Within the inner head, at the semicircular curve at the handle, is a double spray of leaves and flowers, pinned with a rosette, as shown.
The triangular space near the shank of the fork is ornamented with a spray of leaves and fio wers, c, as is also the space j'within the head of the shoulder.
The back of the fork is ornamented with a head to form its outline, which begins and ends with volutes between the shoulder and prongs. An inner bead similar to the inner one on the front completes the ornamentation of the back of the fork.
Having thus described my design, I claim- 1. The herein-described design for tableforks, consisting of the shoulder B, rounding shank (J, and handle D, ornamented on the face side with beads a a, Volutes b, and rays in point (7, flowers 0 e in the flat space of said handle, and spray 0 in the flat space of said shoulder B, as specified.
2. The fork described, having its back ornamented with double beading a a, the latter of which begins and terminates with volutes b, and the triangular space at (7, formed by the edge and curved heading, as specified.
