- This invention relates to improvements in sewingneedles, and consists in providing the said needles, which are commonly made of steel, which isvery liable to damage by corrosion, with coatings of non-corrosive metal, such as gold, silver, copper, or tin, the said metals being applied to, the needles 'after they have been finished by the common and well-known methods of gilding, plating, or tinning.

Letters Patent No. 99,952, dated Februm-y 15, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLATED NEEDLES The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent andmaking part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, ROBERT J. ROBERTS, ofthe city, county, and State of New York, have'invented a new and useful Improvement in Needles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in sewingneedles, and consists in providing the said needles, which are commonly made of steel, which isvery liable to damage by corrosion, with coatings of non-corrosive metal, such as gold, silver, copper, or tin, the said metals being applied to, the needles 'after they have been finished by the common and well-known methods of gilding, plating, or tinning.
I prefer to coat them with gold, and propose to use this substance mainly, preferably first plating them The above specification of my invention signed by:
