Description
time @u tml Lam Patent N 99912,
LEWIS Y. KnroHAM-Ann JAMES TAYNToN, or 'Pon-'r' Jnavis, NEW YORK. A
dated February 1j5, `1870.
lIain?novi-:Innern nt YARD .AND TANK-CRANES.
The Schedule referred to in thans Letters Plat-ent and making part-of the same.
ATo a?? whom it may concern Be it known. that we, LEWIS KETCHAM and JAMES TAYNTON, vof 'Port Jervis, inA the county of Orange, and State ot? New York, vhave invented a certain new and usefullmprovement in Water-Cranes for Feeding Locomotives, of which the following is a specification; and the following is a full, clear, and ex.- act. description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making a part of this'spectication, in. which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of the underground portion yof apparatus to which'the crane is at- Figure 2 shows a section'through the balanced supply-valve.
Figure 3 shows a sectional viewfof the wastev or outlet-valve.
Our invention is an improvement on the water-crane patented to LEWIS Y. KETCHAM, February 12, 1867,
.and consists in the application of a double cone-seated The joint Ay is connected with the supply-pipe, and y provided 'with 'an air-chamber, B,as shown in tlg. 1. K The joint C is provided with a conefseated balancevalve, a b, and `vel:tical-rod, ofas shown in tig. 2, connecting with the lever H for' operating the same.
The joint D is cast with `and supported on the base E or standard of the crane; The waste-valve (Las seen in fig. 3, is attached t tlieylower portion lof the bulb of the joint D, and is so arranged that when the valve a D is opened the force of the water closes it, and when the water is shut olf fro'mathe crane, the connecting-link f attached to the slide h operated by the lever H, presses upon the stern of tbe'wastewalve d, cansingit to open,A thus allowing the water to escape quickly from the upper portion of the crane.
What we claim as our invention, and desire to se-f cure by Letters Patent, (as an improvement on theY patent aforesaid) is-' --The arrangement and combination of theebalanced valves a b and waste-valve (l with their counecthlg appnratus,4 consisting of rods e and c and lever H, snb-v f stantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof we hereuntov subscribe our` names. y
