To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, t t innnmr it. DoRsnY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful Inun'ovements in ShoeSkates, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shoe skates, and the object thereof is to provide a device of this character in which the skate is permanently connected to the shoe, and the latter is formed in two sections, or halves, and is applied to the foot, or over the shoe on the foot, and is secured thereto in rigid manner, the removal of the entire device being effected by simple disengagement of the fastening means or elements.

The invention aims to provide a device of this type of simple and inexpensive construction, and one which can be applied quickly and readily to the foot, or the shoe.

Further and other objects will later appear.

In the dr wings, Figure 1, is a side elevation of the invention, in which an ice skate is employed, Fig. 2, is a front elevation of Fig. 1, but illustrating the parts in open position ready to be applied in position on the foot, Fig. 3, is a section on line 3-8 of Fig. 1, Fig. 4, is a detail view, in section of the fastening button, or clasp, Fig. 5, is an en larged detail sectional view, illustrating the manner of applying the button, or clasp, Fig. 6, is a view similar to Fig. l, but showing a roller skate, and Fig. 7, is a front elevation of Fig. 6.

The invention includes a base plate 1, which in Fig. 1, of the drawings is divided into a toe and heel portion, the upper of the device, vhich is constructed in two parts being constituted of a pair of sole sections 2, hinged to the sides of the base plate 1, by means of the hinges 3, and upper portions proper 4-, connected to the upper faces of the sole sections 2, as depicted in the drawings. A strip of brass or the like 5, is secured to one of the upper portions 4, so that it projects beyond the free edge thereof, as seen in Fig. 5, of the drawings. The fastening members or elements '7, consist of a base 8, a threaded shank 10, and a head 9, the base extending on the under side of the strip 5, the shank extending through the strip, and the head 9, extending on the upper or outer side of the strip to thereby clamp the strip between the head and the base. Straps G, are riveted at one end to the opposite upper portion 41-, and at their free ends are formed with a series of openings to permit of the passage therethrough of the shanks 10, whereby the upper portions are secured in closed position. Similarly at the back of the shoe, the fastening elements 7, are positioned, which operate in the same identical manner as those at the shoe front. A bracing or rein forcing plate 17,eXtends upwardly from the heel. base plate 1, in order to brace the heel portions when the latter are in closed position. A brace 16, is secured to the runner 11, and to the front side of the right angular plate 17, to afford rigid support to the latter.

The modification shown in Fig. 6, and Fig. 7, are similar in all respects to that depicted in the other figures, with the exception that a roller skate type is here embodied, as compared with the ice skate form illustrated in the other figures. The base plate is here designated 1, the toe and heel sections 2', the hinges 3, and the upper portions 4. As distin guished from the form of the invention in which same is adapted for ice skating, the roller skate type, employs a bracing element 12, in the form of a plate which is of right angular form and which has its base secured to the base plate 1, and its right angular part engaged with the heel sections. In all other regards the two types are identical, excepting again, that the base plate 1, in the roller skate form, is not divided into a toe and heel part as in the ice skate type.

It will be seen from the above that the device may be easily and quickly applied and removed, and that the ice runner or the skate wheels, will be firmly neld to the feet, against any tendency toward disengagement from the feet.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 2 1. In a shoe skate, a base plate, an upper composed of two sections, each section having a sole portion, the sole portions being hingcdly connected to the base plate, and fastening elements connected to the two upper sections at the front and rear of the same.

2. In a shoe skate, a base plate carrying a runner, or the like, and an upper composed of two sections each hingedly connected to the base plate and having means whereby they may be secured together.

3. In a shoe skate, a base plate, an upper composed of an upper portion proper separated into two sections, each section having a sole portion hinged to the base plate, means to secure the upper sections together, and means to brace the heel portions of the two sole sections.

4. In a shoe skate, a base plate, a pair of upper sections hinged to the base plate, each upper section being composed of a sole and heel section adapted when in operative position to lie on top of the base plate, said upper sections being joined at the front and rear thereof, and fastening elements to secure the upper sections at the front and rear thereof.

5. In a shoe skate, in combination with a runner, a base plate formed of a heel and toe portion rigidly secured to the heel and toe portion of the runner, a pair of sole sections, hinges secured to the outer sides of the toe portion of the base plate and to the outer sides of said sole sections, hinges secured to the outer sides of the heel portion of the base plate and to the outer sides of the heel portion of said sole sections, an upper section carried by each of the sole sections, and a brace secured at one end to the runner and at its opposite end to the front end of the heel portion of the base plate.
